Luke had the line about Grogu isn't necessarily being trained, he's remembering.

At this stage, I'm pretty sure they're doing something like whatever the original plan for Rey may probably was. Had been trained as a kid (probably by Luke) and for whatever reason had her powers and memories suppressed. Hence the damn title of the film and various other things in TFA that were undone by TLJ.

Grogu was being trained at the Jedi temple, repressed memories and so forth.

After TFA, I thought they did a good job with Rey with my mind towards there actually being more development of her character and story. Seeing it as just an introduction.

Grogu is entertaining but it's a fucking retarded character. As in the character has mental retardation. I have no idea how on earth they will be able to put any growth or further characterisation on him. Without fundamentally changing the character. They're always going to want him to be doing the "cute" baby shit. So they'll never be able to have him pull out a light sabre and cut down enemies. Really just limited to the odd soft force use.

At this point I'm convinced the fans who swear JJ knew what he was doing, even when it was obvious that he used up his entire bag of tricks in TFA and proved he had no idea what to do with any of the characters in TROS, are unable to let go of the simple fact of there not being a grand plan for anything and their headcanons that they thought of every day for 2 years between TFA and TLJ never coming true. It's pure copium. I mean ffs just look at JJ's entire career up until TFA. He never planned out ANYTHING.

After all this time seeing what TFA could have been makes me disappointed. The rough outline isn't great, but it's still something, and it's a hell of a lot better than what we actually got. Look looking at the early concept art gives me feels. Sexy Darth Talon was never gonna happen though.

He teaches him enough that a expensive deep fake can teach someone . BY was a lot stronger after meeting Luke, and helped kill one of the robot things on the last episode.

I've been reading this thread for a while now, so I may as well go ahead and throw my hat in.

I've liked most of the Star Wars series since I was a kid, and as @The handsome tard brilliantly put, I'd definitely consider myself now to be an enjoyer of it when it's good, certainly not a full-time "fan." As it stands, I can still say that the original trilogy holds up very well, I like the prequel trilogy a lot more than I used to (for the most part), and I enjoy both Tartakovsky's and Filoni's "Clone Wars" shows. Up until reading this thread, the only EU materials that I was familiar with were in video games. "Shadows of the Empire," the "Dark Forces/Jedi Knight" series, and "Republic Commando" for the PC were my furthest extents of EU knowledge I had.

After reading a bit about the Expanded Universe itt, I got the Thrawn Trilogy and started reading Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire. After reading the first two chapters, I'm happy to say that I really like it so far!

Spoiler: Thoughts on "Heir to the Empire"

It properly re-introduces Luke, Han, and Leia into a new era of the galaxy's history, while still remaining loyal to their characters and the way they'd most likely behave in these new circumstances. Thrawn's introduction is really well done and it showcases not only how he's a force to be reckoned with, but also how the remains of the Empire are reliant on him being the last major symbol of authority and leadership for them. The way he and his fellow Imperial officers were written almost felt like something out of a Robert Heinlein book, which is something that I'm definitely all in for when it comes to science-fiction. All things considered, I really like Heir to the Empire so far, and I imagine I'll enjoy the rest of the trilogy. The way I see it, I'm perfectly content with calling this book "Episode VII as it should have been."

That's definitely the most praise I have for this series than I've had for a long time. Despite the assertions of fans suffering a really bad case of denial, Disney keeps finding truly ingenious ways of messing everything up.

Meanwhile, that "Star Wars" hotel in Orlando looks worse every time I hear about it. My buddies and I agree that if Disney actually wanted to make money off of this thing - and more importantly, not alienate their own customers - they should have primarily themed the hotel after the original trilogy, since that's what most people who know of "Star Wars" are familiar with. A handful of in-universe references to the prequel trilogy (especially "The Clone Wars") would get younger fans into it, and the overall theming of the project should be much better. If your family just got to Orlando after a long and uncomfortable plane trip or car ride, the last thing you want to do is pile into an unmarked freight truck in the muggy Florida weather to a large grey warehouse-looking place. Maybe if they themed the outside of the hotel after a space port, have the patrons come inside and go through an immersive pre-show (similar to "The Haunted Mansion") that takes them through space and onto the cruise liner, then that would be cool. But that takes advanced technology, money, and engineering talent, things that Disney has but doesn't want to use, for some reason.

I'm interested in seeing how that "Star Wars" hotel turns out, but as countless people have already said itt, I can't help but feel that both Defunctland and Yesterworld Entertainment will have a field day with this ten years from now...

Depends on if he knows when to let the character end and how hard he pushes her IMO. I'm a decent deal more confident with George ending Talon as needed by story and arc than Dave ever would.

I still think Rey could work in a movie. Just hire competent filmmakers, ditch the trilogy aspect, and ignore the dumber shit from the sequels. She would be the new Luke battlin' evil across the galaxy with her perfect cherry ass.

In other news, John Williams is writing the main theme for the Obi Wan Kenobi show. Unfortunately if it's like his recent SW scores, I probably won't remember it after hearing it. Williams only writes scores for Spielberg and Star Wars now, but with the career he's had he doesn't have anything to prove anymore.

I noticed that the article mentions how he was nominated for Oscars for every score in the OT and DT, but not for the PT, which is fucking BULLSHIT. I have to believe that the PT didn't get nominations for best effects (for TPM and ROTS), best score, and best costume design (the only things most people can agree are good about the PT) solely for petty industry politics involving George. They hate him because he was successful without them.

Williams is so old now that I can't imagine he could give us anything memorable even if he wanted to. There's a reason most people his age are long retired and living in old age homes.

I remember when the Matrix was announced for best special effects or something at the Oscars and it got thunderous applause, then when TPM got announced there was a smattering and you could almost feel the animosity through the screen. But maybe that was just me. There was a goofy belief in those early years that The Matrix was a scrappy indy underdog battling against a wealthy out-of-touch sellout.

I can't quote, and I'll just say this:
The time for a sequel trilogy with any ties to the Original Cast was when Lucas was making the prequels. Everyone was too old in the 2010s. They should have had Luke just be a mythical figure. If he gets brought back at all, it should be as a force ghost. Everyone in the OT should have long dead for the ST, instead of forcing their mummified remains to shamble about for the camera.
Hell, if you want to just go ahead and cement the First Order = Nahtzees, have it be lead by a senator convincing the 'imperial core' world they needed to reclaim their rightful place and remove the humiliating restrictions/reparations put on them after the galactic civil war.

Of course the problem there is then the movie needs to stand on its own merits instead of memberberries.

No one is saying that JJ knew what he was doing, or had some long detailed plan. Various people involved, from producers, editors, from JJ to the actors have made mention about plans that got scrapped and ignored, undone with TLJ.

One simply has to pay attention to the plot of TFA to what the story was.

Rey has a mysterious past, she doesn't know what it is, she's been abandoned on a planet. A sand dune away from Luke's buddy with a map to Luke. Is drawn to and comes in contact with the lightsabre and the force Awakens in her. Suggesting it was sleeping and she is shown a connection to Luke.

The film specifically sets up that Han, Kylo, Maz and I think Snoke all suspect or have ideas as to who Rey is or may be.

Rey goes off at the end to find Luke because she hopes he has the key to answering this central mystery. Who is she and what is this power.

It's the damn plot of the film. Not having a part two that pays any of this off, doesn't mean this isn't the story.

It would've also meant the first and only time that the Legacy era would've been playable in video game form...which would've been an instant sell for an EU Lore Fiend like me.

The immersion obsession and everything needing storytelling is what derailed them hardcore.

I've said this before, but they should have just built a luxury hotel based on the Palace of Naboo or something. It'd attract non-Star Wars fans as well, just being a nice premium hotel. Where you can lean into some Star Wars stuff or not. Just be a nice environment to relax when you aren't in the parks or day tripping.

People stay at the Grand Floridian because it is very pretty and nice. Not because they have a hard-on for Victorian-era hotels.

Then just make some mid to lower budget hotels based on some different planets. Or one big one with a few different sections themed around different worlds. Then just have fun with it. Have a big At-AT next to a swimming pool, with a water slide coming out of it in a Hoth themed section. Have the main dining area be a Tatooine cantina and so forth.

It doesn't need to have a story or make any internal logic. Just be fun, so people will go, "Hey kids, check it out, the room looks out onto an X-Wing!"

Have golf carts that a vague themed like speeders with droid domes to ferry guests and luggage to their rooms.

People would lap that shit up.

Don't forget Kenobi saying her name during the lightsaber scene. Based on everything being a retread of ANH I'm going to assume JJ intended for Rey to be Obi-Wan's granddaughter or something.
