All i'm going to say on the topic is that it's a little early to be making predictions about the Canadians cucking out. This is the first act, not the last.

This. For all the validity of dooming right now this is something which will play out over months if not years.

What Trudeau has done is throw away the mask and open a door to serious problems down the line for Canada as a whole. @Cold Root Beer 's post sums up the immigration side but a lot also forget our base economy is sputtering along at best. Investment already dried up years ago when Trudeau was first elected due to his government's activist approach to resource projects (the tech industry in Canada is a meme), the real estate market is only getting worse for the average Canadian, and now inflation is rearing its head.

Canada has gone through similar circumstances before (see what happened during the 90s under Chretien and Martin), but we're now saddled with a government whose first solution, rather than make the hard choices, is to play to identity politics, double down when confronted, and then go full despotism when compromise would've done the trick at half the cost. It's a suicidal approach, it will lead to certain heads getting metaphorically cleaved from necks, but as usual it's a matter of when.

What keeps me pragmatic during all of this is knowing Trudeau's descent to this has moved up the timeline for some very serious issues. The national economy? Dead, no chance at significant investment now thanks to those emergency made permanent banking laws. Western separatism? Big new lease on life, especially when the hypocrisy over this comes to a head after the next pipeline or railway blockade. And let's not get started on the fun when people bitching over increasing cost of living winds up seeing them prevented from even living in the first place.

It won't be immediate, but Canada is in for some interesting times.
