RIP the good old 75%+ discounts, I rarely see them anymore.
they still exist (heck last time I checked at least 5 items on my wishlist were sitting at 90% off), they just aren't concentrated on the big sales anymore where everyone competes with each other. and steam isn't the only store in town, online stores which offer a bigger cut allows them to make a bigger sale, there's a reason gabe lets everyone generate a certain amount of steam keys to sell for whichever cut they want.
https://isthereanydeal.com (and that only lists official resellers, unofficial can go even lower - and I'm not talking about marketplaces like g2a, but actual stores).
What's Steam Fest?
I still use Steam but haven't bought anything on it in five or six years.
"steam's e3". at least that when it started. originally it was called steam game festival (last one was february 2021), with e3 being a complete shitshow last year valve rebranded it in june and made it a big promo event every few months (last one was in october).
what makes it special is that every game has a demo, so you can actually play the games for a bit, and like on a convention floor you have
booth babes devs do streams to shill their game and sit in the forums to talk with (if you think a game sucks you can tell them directly why).
however since it's mostly indies it's usually limited to certain genres (considering indie budget and manpower), on the other hand they do stuff no big publisher would touch, like RTS games. personally I don't need 4k hdr assets in motion capped cinematic movie games if it's all soulless corporate focus tested and committee approved dogshit, I rather play a short and cheaper indie with actual effort even if it's a bit more janky and "uglier" (which is relative too since sometimes they do splurge on assets, and asia can crank out AAA tier graphics like a woketard tweets)
had more fun with these two alone than almost every AAA of the last years I can think of:
During the First World War, a lone French soldier must navigate twisted trenches, scavenge for limited supplies and solve complex puzzles - all whilst fighting for survival in the midst of mankind’s most brutal and horrifying conflict. CONSCRIPT is a new take on classic survival horror.

was pondering to do a thread once it starts, but the last time I did it died pretty fast...
