If it's a musical I really won't be able to resist getting a ticket to see it IRL. The cringe will be off the scale!
Though this has already been discussed here in depth, this is case where it's surprising he hasn't been called out for appropriation. His reinvention of himself as working class is another part of his narcissism which personally irks me, and I'm sure others find it irritating too (see: that Paris Lees interview). But I can see why no-one says anything: everyone is doing it. In social circles such as Ollie's—middle-class, university-educated (typically humanities), bleeding-heart left, urban—pretending to be working class is par for the course. I'm not sure how obvious this is if you're not from TERF Island, but kids in the UK from well-off backgrounds often go around dressing in sportswear which is made to look cheap but is actually super-expensive. They affect a working-class/Multicultural London English accent (like in
this video), they go around complaining about not having enough money (while mummy & daddy pay the rent), etc. It's something I see in my circles all the time; I've made the mistake of talking about it which got me very dirty looks (have since learned my lesson).
