In short, nothing would have changed if the Biden Administration didn't escalate the situation.
But if there is 1 person to blame, it has to be Zelensky and his administration for refusing to deescalate the situation and doing Biden's bidding.

As far as I'm concerned the reason Russia has seized Ukrainian territory under Obama & Biden but not Trump is because they felt safe enough to do it with them in power, certainly not because they would "escalate" the situation, but because Trump would.
