Honestly, I expected Ukraine to put up a bigger fight. They were doomed from the start, sure, but it looks like this could be over in a week.
Is this testament of the strength of Russia or how weak the western propped-up Ukrainian military is?
I do mostly place this success on the Russian hands. They started out with a lightning strike while no one really expected it. They are making good progress, and it looks like it will be a matter of days not weeks or months.

The element of surprise is a bitch, and no military aid is coming for Ukraine.

Ukraine was poor and corrupt forever. People aren't particularly interested in fighting a lost battle when the Russians will treat them about the same as the Ukrainian politicians did

Chernobyl is very close to the border, Ukrainians must be fighting pretty well there if that's where the fighting is still. Russia making much larger advances from Crimea in the south and farther west along the northern border
If the Ukrainians are there long enough and survive do you think they'll click enough for Sweden to take them in thinking they're Africans?

I don't really know what else he could do about it. I don't want a war with Russia. I don't think anyone else, in this thread, wants one, either.

Economic sanctions are really the only thing he could do. What do you think about it? I am genuinely curious what you guys want Biden to do about it
There is nothing he can do when the situation has already arrived to this point. If Trump were in this position right now, there’s nothing he would be able to do either. Biden’s job was to make sure that things never escalated to this level at all - he already failed the moment those Russian tanks rolled across the Ukrainian border, everything he does from this point forward is at best damage control, at worst pouring more fuel on the fire.

We can talk “what would Trump do” all we want, but the reality of the matter is that during the 4 years he was in office, Russia didn’t invade Ukraine. Don’t you think Putin might’ve wanted to do something this big when he had a Russian puppet in the White House, who would act tough on Twitter but fail to actually retaliate (on account of being a Russian puppet who takes orders from Putin)?

Seems like some Ukrainian position are holding.

I think HHH is absolutely right about this, which is why it helps to have dissenting opinions in this thread, so it doesn't devolve into a circle-jerk. NATO has been encroaching on Russia for a while and I think the Ukraine's NATO overtures are more-or-less administration independent. Let's say this happened under Trump, his options are:

1) Sanction Russia - lol, they're already sanctioned.
2) Start a conflict that has the potential to escalate to WWIII
3) Do nothing and let Russia have eastern Ukraine

These are essentially the same options Biden has. I think it's pretty obvious both administrations would pick option 3. Even a Jeb Bush administration would pick option 3. Maybe Hillary Clinton would've picked option 2 but that would've only been to sacrifice millions of children to Moloch, not because it was a sound foreign policy decision.

Option 3 is the only option because Americans don't want to be the world police anymore.
Fuck picking Option 3. Pick Option 2 so that every country can get up from their fatass and do something worthwhile for once.

This makes sense, that was always a concern for Ukraine, large fifth column in their country. Who knows how many Ukrainian soldiers are doing that or will just lay down their arms for the Russians.
this happened when the axis powers invaded yugoslavia: the croat parts of the yugoslav army refused to fight against the germans at all, instead they sided with the croatian fascists who then proceeded to set up an axis-aligned independent croatian state. that was seen as a much better situation than being part of serb ruled yugoslavia.

tl;dr diversity is poison and will tear a country apart the moment it comes under serious pressure

What could Biden, or anyone, have done to prevent this, though? Putin was gonna do it no matter what. If Trump was still president, I'd say the same thing, too

Russia is overwhelmingly better armed and organized very successfully in the first hours but this is mostly it. The average Ukrainian's life won't change too much whether he's run by a Russian oligarch or a Russian oligarch speaking a dialect. Ukraine has even lower fertility than Russia (1.2 to 1.5) and like a third of its working age population either work abroad or get their money abroad. No one is gagging to die for this non-country and with no support coming in anyone who fights knows it's a lost cause.

Hey, mod who deleted my post: I said nothing about HHH nor do I give a shit about whether or not he's in the thread. I'm just tired of seeing people act like they're fucking mods telling people to stick to the topic like we're supposed to autistically talk about the situation with no deviation whatsoever.

Uh oh, looks like someone went to the private paypig club to get some support.
