Russia is getting the Iran treatment. they will be frozen out of the US/NATO markets.
Economic repercussions like this make me think if Ukraine can just manage to hold on, they can get something done. There won't be any foreign intervention but there is a glimmer of hope for the Ukrainians it seems.

Sorry, I get like 8 replies on here from angry Republicans every time I mention Trump isn't the perfect messiah they think he is.

Why would he? He was waiting for the perfect time. If it was just because Biden is in charge, why didn't he do it a year ago? Or 6 months ago? That's like asking why did Hitler wait until 1939 to invade Poland
He didn’t do it then because six months ago, he was laying the groundwork and testing the waters for this very scenario.

It’s not like we just woke up today and suddenly tanks were in Ukraine. It’s not like there wasn’t months of lead-up to this, during which time Biden could’ve done something to try and forestall this course of action. Invading a country isn’t a decision you can make and execute in a day.

You’re right in that he was waiting for the right time - he waited for a weak president, and he spent the last year dipping his toes into the water to try and gauge how the international response would go, and only when he was certain about the favorable conditions did he go ahead.

If you are positing that Putin was waiting out the Trump years for… some reason, I’d just like to learn what these potential massively negative downsides were that could possibly outweigh the massive upside of having a fully subservient puppet installed as the head of state of your only true rival superpower. Obviously I don’t expect you to have all the answers, but I want to hear at least a theory or hypothesis for why the Trump presidency wasn’t the “right time” to invade Ukraine.

Nah freezing foreign assets is literally freezing foreign assets. They'll use it as leverage. "We will give you your money back when your government un-invades Ukraine."

Its mildly serious as people in China or other countries at odds with the US will hesitate having their money here incase an incident happens
This isn't just freezing. He announced that the US is seizing those funds, as in they are going right into the US government's pocket.

Have the Russians sent any T-14 tanks into Ukraine? I wanna see one popped so badly by some guy hiding in a bush with an ATGM

It's interesting seeing all these weapons in action
