Because there's a highway that passes through it. Securing communication lines- supply transportation.
Alternatively to prevent smashing the sarcophagus out of spite and ruining the land for miles around but nobody would be insane enough to actually do that unless they were a Dirlewanger tier war criminal too smashed on drugs to care what they did.

And I hope that the Dnepropetrovsk Maniacs remain incarcerated. Don't want them walking around a conflict zone. They could start WW3.

Also why is now the perfect time? If you're so confident that Trump was a Putin stooge, then the perfect time would've been anytime between 2017 and 2021. It takes time to mobilize your whole army and if Putin didn't want to invade under Trump, he couldn't have started preparations until Trump was out of the WH. Invading a year or 6 months ago wouldn't have been possible under that prerequisite.
The only reason Trump gets brought up in all of this is the left claiming endlessly that Putin won't do anything now that Biden is in charge, that Biden is 8 steps ahead of him etc. all to amount to Russia taking Ukraine in a week. Now after their hero Biden didn't end up with some great genius plan to save Ukraine, they're back at trying to boomerang it to Trump.

Putin did not and has not threatened the US or Americans (discounting the DNC/Biden's gang of thieves in Ukraine of course) so Trump wouldn't have ordered the assassination of any Russians. Someone who understood Realpolitik had Trump's ear. Biden is the American left's meat puppet and they're dumber than a sack of rocks, which is why we are here.

Also surprisingly well fortified and fortifiable, so if left unsecured could be an easy base to entrench in by the Ukranian army. just makes sense to secure it, leave a token force, and move on.
