It seems Russia air doctrine and superiority completely determined this war as expect. They were able to destroy the majority of Ukraine defenses before the start of ground invasions

I was just thinking about this actually. I agree, I don't think this specific event is going to lead to WW3. A Cold War 2 perhaps, but not WW3. That said, I do think it teeters on the edge of setting the stage for WW3 in the near future.

It does reveal some glaring flaws in their strategy and armament though. As has been noted by others, they cannot afford to lose too many of their newer machines and a lot of their ground forces are outdated for any offensive push. They are utterly reliant on maintaining air superiority. Against another western power, they'd likely lose in an offensive -or- defensive war, though the latter they'd absolutely hemorrhage the other side before they went down.
