it's Combined Arms and Defensive Warfare. They run with a combination of SOF, Armor, and Paratroopers, break your toys, entrench their standard units in the back. Tell their elite boys to run back white the standard units have set up a kill line with everything and dare you to try some funny shit. It's terrifying, and even though the strategy to beat it is out there on paper (you trap and encircle their elite units and blow any entrenchments to kingdom come with air superiority) nobody has beaten it in recent memory. From my understanding of the Russian military, they emphasize speed and agility, and are not good at hunker-down-and-bulldoze operations like the US military. While they have the advantage of invading a country right on its border, I don't think the Russian economy can handle a long, drawn out war.
So from my little understanding of modern military strategy, Russia has to effectively blitzkrieg Ukraine and obtain a swift victory, or have its economy obliterated back to the 90's.
By the way, this brown guy speaking at the current press conference actually sounds competent and what he knows what he is talking about. Feels a little weird to see that from the Biden administration.
If this were a U.S. operation the airports and harbors would've been the first to go, ideally handled by the Marine Corps followed by Army units setting up Anti-Air Batteries, and Artillery so they can keep pouring in units via amphibious or air methods, and entrench themselves.
