The US is as dependent on Russian oil now as it was under Trump. Which is to say - not very. Most oil used in the US comes from the US itself, Canada, or Mexico. Hell, until the current oil shortfall due to demand spikes, Saudi tankers were routinely turned away because they couldn't find buyers for the stuff in the US.

The problem is that Europe is dependent on Russian oil and gas, and neither Biden nor Trump could fix that because Europe is run by retards who think war doesn't real.

Putin probably just saw an opportunity to attack Ukraine once more people became dependent on Russian oil. Combined with Biden being a weak president and obvious internal issues being increased by it, it was the perfect time to react. Wasn’t helped either by Dems a-logging Russia in general and just poking the bear by trying to push the Trump/Russia connection. Not saying that we have to be best friends with Russia, but pushing the Russia thing has probably helped sour Russia/US relations.

If true this is a huge change from 2014. I think Russia was hoping the Ukrainian military would just throw their guns in the ditch and bail. It's starting to look like this is not the case.
