I have to say the Russians have been surprising me with how restricted and passive they seem to be acting when it comes to civilians, idk why just thought they'll be a lot more indiscriminate with running and gunning when rushing for the capital.
There was that poor guy on the bike who got directly hit, though I'm pretty sure that was a misfire or something.

One thing I'm noticing, though it just may be a reporting issue, is that the big pushes come during daylight hours. Not at night. You would think Russia would take advantage of their tech edge in night-fighting capability if they had it.
As far as I'm aware, in this case and in past experiences even pre-dating the introduction of night vision, most major attacks occur an hour or two before daylight. Then the rest of the forces begin to push.

Besides that, you can't and shouldn't have all your forces fighting only by night.

The people who buy that "6 kills in 1 day" ace story are trying to get a nickname meme going.

Even with night vision advantages, you still have the limits of the human body and the risk of friendly fire incidences.

Even understanding blitz tactics, you want an organized offensive. Not a mad rush towards objectives where you shoot at every slavshit tank in your scope.
Night Ops were the thing as far back as Just Cause and Desert Shield/Storm.

You're training to fight just as well in the light or dark and that shit paid off.

But you've got to TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN for that shit. Which is why there was ARTEP/PRE-ARTEP/WINTEX/NTC/REFORGER and nine thousand other things where you trained at night for combat, maneuver, and everything else.

I will receive 200 able bodied men if they will present themselves
at my headquarters by the first of March with good trucks and guns.
I wish none but those who desire to be actively engaged. My headquarters

Fighting in the streets earlier, road traffic goes "NOPE". Location not given.

Wreckage from a battle outside Kharkov from this morning. Thread claims it may have been from a Tochka-U strike.

Protestors in St. Petersburg. 250 arrests so far and counting.

I think a good barometer of how long and how ugly this war's going to be is if the Ukranian government decides to turn Kiev into a city fight. If they pull out and let the Russians take it for the sake of keeping it intact, then they're going to do so with every other city, and we can expect things to wrap up fairly quickly in the hopes of getting this over and the treaty signed. If they dig in and try to make a Stalingrad or Berlin of it, then expect things to go downhill fast and stay that way for a while.

I have to imagine Putin told the military to go out of their way not to fuck with civilians, will make an occupation a lot more easier when people realize they'll basically be able to live their life as they did before and they have no widespread abuses to seek revenge for. Very much a velvet glove approach.
