Russia probably wouldn't be all "hearts and minds" shit which makes it easier to put down any attempts at insurgency plus Ukraine don't have the religious "go die for us and get all these virgins" angle. There isn't a strong history of warlords in Ukraine either so not like they can fall back into tribal cells with an obvious leadership. While I don't doubt it would be hell for the Russians to take and hold I do doubt it would be anything like the "civilisation building" exercises in the middle east.

They put one set of beliefs on a shelf and take down a different one. One that is right for the situation, one that matches the beliefs of the others who they walk in step with. It's as easy for them as changing clothing. There is no consistency in belief or thought.

Gonna be real here, I didn't think Russia was actually going to invade Ukraine. I just thought it was a way of completely destablising the region just through the fear of potentially invading. If Ukraine gets squeezed, the gas pipelines get squeezed and Europe shits itself.

Also completely surprised how easy it's been for Russia to just... walk in and take it. I figured if Russia actually wanted to take Ukraine then the rest of Europe would say "Oh no Russia don't do that" and then commit absolutely zero troops to the region, but even then I'm surprised how quickly Russia has just... drove right to the capital and surrounded it within 3 days.
