Before the invasion itself, the main talking point from Russia was about NATO, and has been for years. Putin decided to focus on the ethnic conflict and talk about "denazifification" because that is how you justify wars in current year. Funny to think that both Libs in Canada and Putin used the "MUH NAZEES" line this week as an excuse to use aggressive force.

Here is Ukrainan and Russian GDP over the last years. It last 4 years it grows strong, while Russina declines. Just a reminder, in 2014 Crimea got annexed, if that wouldnt be the case, it's GDP would grow even stronger.

No one is invoking article 5 unless Russia actually attacks them which isn't gonna happen

I would assume a good percentage of the personnel amassed at the borders are in support roles as opposed to combatants, but I'm not an expert by any means. I think I read recently that around only 10% of the US military is combat arms, with the rest being the rear echelon types. Not sure how the Russian military is organized, but I would guess they'd deploy with significant logistical support units as well.
