Security Council votes (the only votes with actual teeth) have to be unanimous. Always been that way.

There are no Russian forces inside the city according to any sources. There may have been a few probes in the daytime, but it's mostly been confined to bombings. A lot of the action in Kiev has been paranoia among the militia defenders.

I can understand Russia not wanting to be hemmed in by NATO, but lets be real, NATO was never going to INVADE them. NATO has too many anti-war non-jingoistic members. If the Ukraine had joined NATO, it wouldn't have presented an existential threat to Russia, except maybe in Putin's mind, just been an economic and political thorn. It would have meant that Ukraine was off the table forever for taking back as a puppet state or actual territory.

For better or worse that's happened several times. If I remember right we (the US) have had resolutions against us but got to use our veto power. It's just how the dysfunctional system works.

Russia doesn't use conscripts for front-line offensive operations, and there's no evidence of these "massive Russian casualties" aside from the Ukrainian government's Twitter account insisting that they've been wiping out entire columns of Russians and took out 600 armored units in the first day.

I am being hyperbolic but you don't need twitterinas to tell you that the Russians may have lost in the hundreds by now. There's simply no repudiated military scenario where your soldiers suffer so many successive fatalities across the fronts and then have random gopniks upload their corpses with lulzy indignation. The Russians definitely got a bloody nose out of the initial engagements.

If this is the case, absolute utter disaster, and a permanent stain on whatever positive legacy Putin would have left. Really sad and terrifying to think Putin is the most competent world leader currently.

If it is, yeah it would be a 10/10 joke even @Vince McMahon could get behind. Maybe Putin could then become Ukraine's new president?

They have been used all over for the last 30 years or so. Even Brazil and India have their own Thermobaric weapons. The "bunkerbuster" bombs the US used in the early stages of the Iraq war were Themobaric bombs.

Who voted against, and which council? The five permanent members of the Security Council all have auto-veto rights, and Russia is one of them, meaning that anything from that angle is just virtue signalling.

It's all or nothing. If Ukraine and Russia signs a ceasefire, Ukraine is almost certain to join NATO if at the very least work some treaty to were Europe would be able to aid them militarily.

quite the opposite IMO. if some sort of Minsk3 is announced, where Russia ceasefires onto Ukraine in exchange for Zelinsky being Putin's bitch, then Ukraine is all but Russia territory in name only. they will NEVER join nato as long as russia enslaves them.
