Meanwhile half of America is simping for former KGB agent Putin because they (justifiably) don't like the current president.

I'm not saying that Putin has no legitimate concerns, what I'm saying is that Putin is not a friend of any American, regardless of political stripe.
Putin doesn't like Biden, and a lot of Americans have good reason to not like Biden either.
But the amount of thirst for Putin in this thread because people think "Putin is dunking on Biden so he must be my ally" is mad.

PVS 14s can see through glass but FLIR like the AN/PAS 23 cannot.

Given how publicity obsessed they are, if there were two IL-76's wrecked and down, I think we would have seen photos a long time ago.
Unnamed American Sources confirming the story doesn't add much credibility.

Two US officials with "direct knowledge of conditions on the ground" confirm Ukraine shot down two Russian Il-76 transport planes, AP reports.

If this is true then the Russians fucked up big time because they might have carried hundreds of elite paratroopers or heavy equipment..

A lot of it is compounded by the fact that basically everyone is using the same gear. It's not like WW2 or something where you could just at a glance tell who was doing what because they all had different shit. Hell, even the shit in the Mideast was easier to sort through because the various groups fighting typically wore different garb even if they were just from various militia groups. Some of it too though is that Ukraine is absolutely trying to make Russia A, seem like genocidal maniacs, and B, seem weak and incompetent, while on the Russian side you basically have a complete lockdown of all information.

We may have satellite pictures confirming it. For obvious reasons we wouldn't be keen to rub it in to Putin publicly.
