Dude NVGs and Thermal sights aren't the same peice of equipment. Night vision works by amplifying light while thermal sights work by heat detection. The PVS 7 never had thermal capabilies. Both Thermals and NVDs are issued by the US and Russia.

I'm not saying they are the exact same thing.

NVG-7 also used infrared (source: the little infrared lamp you could switch on and the infrared chemlights you could use to brighten things) in addition to amplifying ambient light.

Which let you see through windows, tell the difference between a fucking box and the ambient area.
