I've given up on following the Happenings thread (much more civil here) but from what I have seen...it is believed Putin is probably shitting himself right now because Ukraine isn't going down easy?

I just saw the clip and photograph of the Russian tank intentionally mowing down a civilian car and the civilian surviving. Astonishing, and actions most foul.

Things have definitely not been good for Putin. He had 48 hours to take over the country, but now that he's been halted not much further than the initial assault there's going to be no shortage of aid and foreign volunteers making their way into Ukraine for a chance to bloody his nose.

Let's just say a leader who is confident in his current military operation doesn't start screeching at neutral neighbor states like Sweden and Finland that they'd better not join NATO, or he'll invade them too.
I think he really thought Russian air superiority would be enough to roll over Ukraine in one surprising night and is inwardly seething that his antiquated military couldn't execute on that.

We're definitely not in 2001 territory (gotta have a domestic tragedy for that to happen), but from what I've seen absolutely no one thinks Biden's going to commit troops to intervening in Ukraine, and so far the reaction is breaking along the usual partisan lines, affecting nothing. People who already disliked him have reason to dislike him more, and people who cheerlead him don't have any reason to worry, so their approval rating is unchanged.
It's basically a wash where no one has any reason to change their preexisting opinion.

Well, considering that there so far all the buildings in New york are still in the same place, I would say no, we are not back in 2001.

This sanctions talk while the Russian as just cruising with their tanks just looks bad to Biden, even people who don't want any war can tell that the US looks weak now.

His admin tried to make political hay over the "threat to Ukraine"

Putin basically called his bluff.

The problem is as @Jet Fuel Johnny and @JosephStalin will tell you "no plan survives contact" They wanted a quick little military action where the Ukrain surrenders, agrees to never join Nato, the russians get their deep water port.

Doesnt seem to be going that way.

Some very very bad things are about to happen when the rest of the world realizes that the United States is now too weak to meet it's military obligations.

You just realizing this now? China has been saying this since Afghanistan, even if it’s just to demoralize places in their crosshairs to just wave the white flag.

Depends however on the rest of the world having foresight to know that if America's fallen, that the ensuing chaos would make shit worse for everyone.

Especially if you take the longview that Trump most likely will be in power again and/or Biden himself being transitory assuming he doesn't drop dead once the Democrats can secure that ten year term for Kamala instead of having her being stuck with Biden's unfinished first term as her own first term.

So they’re gonna #MeToo Tucker Carlson. Probably banking on the rest of Fox News caring a lot about image and PR. The fact this wasn’t at the height of the #MeToo era just shows this is a personal vendetta as much as another attempt to take down what they see as a beacon of Trumpism.

Would be better to expect red waves at the state and local levels in addition to retaking the House. The state governments have balls and have been using their powers more freely than in uniparty past.

Also, the Biden administration's lukewarm response to the Ukrainian invasion (even with US interests at risk - Hunter Biden's dealings notwithstanding) probably is a nice neon sign for Putin to be more aggressive.
