The US has quite a few of those places, actually. Defense oriented labs are not unusual. Not even a little bit.

1. Shots are too far away. Could be captured uniforms for all I know.

Why would the Ukrainians station an 80 man garrison on a small remote island off the coast of the black sea? 80 take alot to feed and equip over an extended period of time where a garrison of 13 would be enough to patrol the island, keep it secure and you can resupply them every week not every day.
3. These are marines, the boys from snake island were border guard service. Unless Ukraine went to strike back at said small rock again, wasting the marines in an effort that would obviously get them captured or killed for little value, makes no tactical sense.

I could see them being marines since I would imagine that you'd need some actual infantry there if the position is to be used to intercept and search ships and the like. 80 seems like an overstatement though. If I had to guess, they probably had like one platoon there with 40-50 marines who worked on rotation with other marine platoons, and then a semi-permanent force of 13 border patrol personnel. Basically something like this.

Takes relieved platoon back to port
Border patrol personnel come and go regularly on a small skiff

Could be, not enough info to make a call.
