Russia got to Kiev, Ukraine's capital, on the first day. Their head of defense forbid the evacuation of their men from the teens to old ages. Hell, they told them to firebomb the Russians if they could.
They already lost.

Second day, and then spent the third twiddling their thumbs. Ukraine's still fucked, but Kiev is the one place where they actually do have Putin by the balls. My guess, the attack from Belarus was supposed to be the surprise front, roll up to Kiev, and take it on the march within 24-48 hours, before anyone could dig in. But that didn't happen. Maybe Ukranian high command read the tea leaves right, or maybe they just got cocky and underestimated the fight they'd get, but Kiev is now manned, arming everyone who shows up, and digging the fuck in. This means that the Russians are left with two options on how to handle the city:

1-Throw their restrictive RoEs to the wind and assault the city with overwhelming force
2-Surround Kiev and starve it out

Either option is going to be an optics nightmare, completely ruining the image of a civilized war Putin has been trying so hard to maintain. As long as Ziminski holds out, Russia is no longer capable of the low-mess win they've so clearly been after.

I don't know if I'm just more likely to see Ukrainian propaganda than Russian propaganda due to being a westerner, but I'm surprised at how much more realistic Russia's claims are while Ukraine's official twitter accounts are posting footage from video games as if they're real. It's kind of embarrassing.

I see a lot of discussions in this thread regarding who is at fault for this situation with a lot of groups being blamed and presidents being named. As someone living in a country that was part of the USSR, I can tell you all - Russia is the sole reason for this war. I don't care what is their casus belli to start a war. Its history is the reason why countries joined NATO, so Russia bitching about it, is them whining about what they have done to themselves, just like any proper tranny would do.
USSR is not a country any one of you would like to be a part of, so do not be surprised that people that know how it was, are now willing to die to not be a part of the new USSR.
As for who could have prevented it, I know someone who definitely could - Russia. And they chose to walk the same path as USSR. I can only pray that Ukrain is strong enough to stop them.
