They didn’t choose to go down this path. They never got off it in the first place. USSR disbanded, NATO did not. NATO then keeps expanding until Russia is threatened on all sides. That’s why Russia is bitching because the West presents itself as people that would never ever do the thing that everyone else would do. Because the West is good. This is the end result.
