And that is why, I think, NATO has not disbanded. Everyone who has read a history book know that USSR is still there. Just under a different name.
Even if USSR wasn’t there I doubt NATO would have disbanded. We want everything afterall.
All I see are reason for other countries to join NATO against Russia.
It’s difficult, you look like a lunatic when you say the people being nice are going to lead to your ruin and are not to be trusted and then by the time you have no choice but to respond you have to respond hard. Russia was essentially trapped.

Radiation will just fuse them into their suits and thus new species is born...

Any claims of Russia running out of military weaponry should be taken with a mound of salt because this is the former Soviet Union we're talking about. Those guys produced enough AKs and bullets to fight forever. But I have heard that Russia's used most of its short- and medium-range ballistic missile arsenal on Ukraine, which is a little more believable.

I posted the vydya before going to sleep. Most of it is old Soviet surplus with peeling paint and ancient comms, driven by disoriented teens.

This makes sense to me because all the billions Putin spent on modernizing military was probably mostly stolen, what's left is shit on a stick and an excuse of numbers.

Russians, just like Soviets love numbers. It's not how awesome your army is, it's how many AKs, tanks you can report on paper. In reality it all turns out like in Iraq, massive gathering of ancient technology with active NV that show exactly where they are.

Do we see NV gear on Russian troops, high tech shit? These guys look like they were outfitted to the cheapest hardware you can get in an Army/Navy store.

A Russian soldier and Ukrainian national guardsmen keeping a joint eye on the Chernobyl nuclear reactor after the forces agreed to stop clashes inside the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Not sure how accurate this is though as this is apparently the only source of the photo and people say this is from a Russian news station.

Giving civvies rifles is bad enough but improvised explosives is worse.
Please explain why civilians having military rifles is bad. Especially in a "we are losing a war and are about to be occupied by a hostile foreign power" context.

Have people just been asleep for the last 20-odd years? Winning a conventional war as a large power over a weaker country is easily enough accomplished. Securing it afterward in an occupation is the motherfucker.

Its obvious russian losses are much higher than for US in Iraq. But in terms of speed its very similar, if not outright faster, than US troops advancing through contested territory. Also exactly how much higher losses are don't know, seen many examples of claims where "entire tank columns" have been destroyed, when in reality it was a single IFV or APC. Or even Ukrainian vehicles. The only picture of destroyed Russian columns that I know of are two columns of trucks near Kherson.

As of today, Visa and Mastercard payment systems no longer work with the cards issued by the five sanctioned banks (ВТБ, «Открытие», Совкомбанк, Промсвязьбанк and Новикомбанк).

The cards issued by Сбер, Russia's main commercial bank, remain operational... For now.

This faux sophisticated rootless cosmopolitan selfishness is the ultimate cringe tbh
I'm not too keen on fatalism so it's a given that I believe that man shouldn't be doomed to live in accordance to the wills of faceless figureheads or even tied to circumstances that he can't control such as his place of birth. Still, not a cosmopolitan view when you're not promoting multiculturalism or an united global government.

I occasionally wonder if the recent world events (covid fiasco, last year's middle east fiasco, canadian fiasco and now Slav war) haven't nudged common folk towards the obvious conclusion that no current form of government can be trusted and you gain nothing by getting too worked up over who gets to be in power or not when all those in power or aspiring to be in power are equally morally bankrupt and inept.

We won't be getting a full on Snake Plissken's timeline anytime soon but one can dream...
So are we reaching a plateau already?

The news about SWIFT and Turkey were essentially media catastrophizing and the battle at Ukraine seems to be centered at Kiev with the Ruskies obviously trotting over parts of town already. How long do you all give until the city falls? Not seeing much possibility of a stalemate at all.
I think handing out weapons willy nilly to civilians who are untrained and about to be in a hot warzone and paranoid as fuck could arguably be considered a crime or at least gross negligence because holy shit of course that is gonna lead to a ton of friendly fire incidents
It's gross negligence and it will indeed increase the count of civilian deaths.

If that's true, how's that worse? I mean flipping off the enemy before they kill you is somewhat satisfying but flipping off the enemy before they fail to kill you is even better.
Martyr stories are preferable to survivor stories if your goal is to inspire your population into a sacrificial last stand. NSDAP wasn't trumpeting about the units that surrendered to the Russians before the battle of Berlin, they were making hero's of the divisions that had been completely wiped out.
