Yeah, those lolcow being military legends are not getting old. It means Putin is insane and threatening to Nuke because he is a coward.

Exactly. I am curious to see a serious argument from someone who is dug in on one side or the other on this conflict. While I've heard the occasional "Support Russia to own the libs" I've been seeing a lot more neutrality and it's framed by the Ukrainian side as complicity. The Ukrainian side hasn't really even attempted to argue their point, just assuming it as default and that if you don't agree you're a Putin Shill.

It's basically the Left/Right Culture War all over again, where if you disagree you're a "Nazi" or "Russian Puppet".
A lot of the Ukranian supporters online are basing their stance on the same sort of culture war reasoning, too: Namely, that everyone that they know and like is supporting Ukraine, and obviously that means Ukraine must be the Good Guys because every conflict is Good Guys vs. Bad Guys. It's unsettling how many people not only need no concrete reason to support something beyond "everyone else is doing it", but are also willing to paint anyone who isn't explicitly siding with them as an enemy.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty neutral here because this is a long-standing conflict that I'm not particularly well-versed on, so I know any stance I take has an excellent chance of being retarded.

This is something that is slightly unique about this new phase of clownworld imo. People openly, self-admittidly not caring about what the truth is. Embracing brazenly living in a parallel universe.
There's a quote I used to like about how not caring about whether or not something is true as long as it makes you feel good is like not caring about where your money came from as long as you have it.

You know if Russia has to get Belarus involved they probably took a harder L than they anticipated....I would assume they would've saved Belarus for when they were getting ready to enter Poland.
I think it's more of a diplomatic and PR victory for the Russians. They tried to ask Kazakhstan to send forces previously, but they told the Russians to fuck off.

If they can convince their people that this is not actually a war of conquest by Russia, but a "special military operation" by the CIS countries, it might be more widely accepted.

Also, it would clearly draw a Russian power block by having all these countries face the same sanctions, thus making them essentially reliant on Russia, their biggest economy.

Probably Putin thinks NATO will make the same move as the Nazis and try to take the Caucasus to defeat the Russians easily.

As far as I know the Russians are fucked if someone takes the caucasus from them because it's their center of gravity and supplies.

Can't blame him. NATO would roll through the Caucasus very easily like a knife through butter.

This is the kind of madness that the late Professor Stephen Cohen was warning about up until his untimely death in 2020.

The propaganda machine on both sides is so performant it's absurd and not credible. I'm not personally endorsing any sides because armed conflicts are complex situations that require good comprehension of political evolution inside historical context, geographic background, private interests etc.

Because current media reporting is totally unreliable on both sides I'm trying to find stuff prior to the war. If you'd be interested to see a different analysis/pov you could check out this video from 2016, it's a conference by an American scholar held in Poland.
Mearsheimer's works are widely read and debated by 21st-century students of international relations. A 2017 survey of US international relations faculty ranks him third among "scholars whose work has had the greatest influence on the field of IR in the past 20 years." - Wiki

I personally find this lecture interesting because Mearsheimer explains the bad strategic decisions made by the US/EU regarding the Ukrainian crisis. He made some predictions that turned out to be very relevant to the current situation, but I also don't 100% agree with everything he said.
It's a really sad situation for European countries and my sympathy goes to the civilians suffering from the tragic fate of History.
Crossing this thread with the one at A&N, but whatever. Thank you for posting something worth listening to as I watch the slavs lose their grasp on Engilsh live in this thread inbetween all the "I was just pretending lmao" and the 300th time that Sam Hyde picture is posted.

The guy posted photos of bombings and asked people to support "civilian victims". After ton of support and sympathy, he revealed that he pictures were of serbian civilian victims of NATO's bombardment in 1999. After some sperging towards him, he was reported and banned, because "that was entirely different thing".

Fucking lol! :story:
(...) their genocide.
Oh if only. In that alternate reality where there actually was a genocide things would look completely different in Kosovo right now.

People getting emotionally invested in this conflict on one side or another does bring out their inner - Allah forgive me for saying this word - r*dditor.
Man, this reminds me of that speech made by the major in Hellsing Ultimate about why he loves war.
As a weeb this thread has increasingly made me feel like a massive hypocrite for ever shitting on Harry Potter, Star Wars and MCU capeshit consoomers.
