If you look at the photos and videos, there's a mix of Russian equipment in use. This isn't surprising because Russian equipment procurement is full of half assed attempts and embezzlement.

This is also why they have to wear armbands, because some of them are wearing the EMR pattern of gear, some of them are wearing the newer patterns that look more like multicam, and then you also have the variations of EMR that might confuse. It's just a clusterfuck. Most of them are probably using 74's because they are numerous and easier on the procurement side of things.

The reason why they seemed more professional in Syria is due to the fact that the Russians trained a few BTG's specifically for Syria and the mission there.
Here, we see degraded BTG's who have probably all suffered from the wonderful mismanagement of equipment and funds that the Russian military is known for, but it seems like the Tigr vehicle procurement went well. Seeing lots of those, so good for them.

It's relevant to note that Russia chose to use units from the Eastern Military District to advance on Kiev. The Eastern Military District is the lowest priority in their military for receiving new equipment and manpower, which sort of begs the question of why they weren't used somewhere less critical.
