Here is the main issue regarding nukes and Russias threat of using them. If Russia sets the precedent that shows the world, all you have to do is threaten to launch nukes you can then invade an independent country with impunity which sets a bad precedent particularly for the EU. Therefore what started as a slapfight between two slavs has now escalated to a much larger issue globally.
