I will say, Biden is fucking this up less than I thought he would. Media releases and back-room got information out front. He still got caught pants around his ankles when the balloon when up (would it kill you to redeploy some Naval assets and make the Bongs & Frogs do the same?). Its been a few days and there is still a Ukraine.

The real issue is that Russia has clearly burned through the tardo conscripts and the real forces are about to start rolling up.

To be fair to the Americans, this is a European war so I can understand the U.S not wanting to become more involved then they need to. Hence why most of the support is coming out of the UK and EU.

No, that's really out of the ordinary, the only other time I've heard of it happening was Saddam to ensure the worst people were out on the streets for the Americans to clean up

EDIT: I guess the Soviets did it to but they kept them under close guard and used them to charge machine guns nests and walk over minefields

Gas is only good to supply to a proxy country, No world power wants to get caught deploying gas in such a direct way.

Seen as no one asked... Here is my unsolicited and unqualified opinion on this complex situation.

Russia is right from a geopolitical perspective and wrong from a self-determination perspective.

Russia is right because the US and NATO have genuinely made plans and publicly stated that they intend to move weapons to Ukraine, including long range missiles and even chemical weapons labs. That isn't a meme. This is, as many people have said, no different to the Cuban missile crisis. If you think the USA acted appropriately in the Cuban missile crisis, you are probably going to sympathise with Russia in this situation.

Russia is wrong because the people of Ukraine chose to pivot to NATO and the West voluntarily. Yes, we can argue that the full weight of the Western media pulled them in that direction. Yes, we can argue that the Ukrainian government shut down opposition news stations. You can argue that about any Western country as well, yet we still have to honour the decisions the public make even if they were manipulated because, frankly, we are being manipulated by all sides anyway. If you think the British public deserved to have their Brexit vote honoured, you are probably going to sympathise with Ukraine in this situation.

So my question is... I think that the USA acted appropriately during the Cuban missile crisis AND I think the Brexit vote should be honoured, so whose side should I be on?

I think I have an answer.

Especially during the early days of this conflict, when it seemed pretty volatile, I was a little worried about going to sleep; like I didn't want to sleep through the ~30 minute ICBM warning. Maybe less if hypersonic missiles are in play. Minor PL: I live in a probable nuclear blast radius if shit were to hit the fan. Crazy how boomers just dealt with ~50 years of that. Although I guess this is more comparable to distinct flare-ups like the Cuban Missile Crisis.

From what i read about the Cuban missile crisis there were always back channels, normal people thought they could die any minute but in private both sides seemed to not want that and tried to bumble a way out between themselves. Except the cuban leadership who were massive pieces of shit during that whole ordeal and really wanted it to happen so who knows, there's always the chance that is not just agit prop and the world leaders are really that psicotic.

But oh well, is just like Game of Thrones, Valar Morghulis, Putin is Daeneris yadah yadah .
