Why? Ukraine is next door and they're already committed to running this war until they control most (if not all) of the country. They have as much time as they need to consolidate their control and get their tanks back.

It wasn’t until later that the US got the means to really shape up the armies against the British. An undisciplined armed force is not a good thing. With the haphazardness of Zelensky telling his citizens to make Molotov cocktails to aim at tanks, this will only result in more Ukrainians getting killed. Good on Ukraine for fighting back, but they are handling this the wrong way.

I really don't understand the posters who freak out over the whole 'arming civilians bad / stupid' thing. Obviously it's not ideal, but a lot of people value things like their country / people / honor a lot more than their own lives. Basically every war in history, when one side is on the edge of collapse has civilians step up and fight against the invaders, even if it seems stupid or ineffective.

The problem is the government encouraging it in an official capacity. A lot of people are delusional and don't understand the severity, they think it's like being at a protest or something where the Russians won't light them up if they wear civilian clothing while tossing a firebomb. Soldiers have an understanding of the realities, civilians don't. I'm not going to fault people for rising up against invaders but the government officially encouraging it is gross and feels manipulative.

I think some of his handing out of weapons and teaching how to make molotovs isn't really to fight the invasion right now, but instead to poison the well for any occupation or annexation of the country. I mean anti soviet partisans didn't stop until the early to mid 50s in Eastern Europe, with some literally hiding in the forests all the way up until the end of the cold war.

On top of that Ukraine has also gone full Dirlewanger and released convicts and armed them into the streets, which lead to the predictable scenario of a bunch of them taking advantage and assaulting other non-combatant Ukranians for a quick buck and resources

Russia was just starting a huge armaments building campaign that was gonna reach full power in 1943-1944 and the Germans believed by that point Germany wouldn't be able to even get close to Russia's war production. Stalin wasn't ordering all those factories to be built so he could fight a war with Romania lol

But in 1941 Stalin had no plan to attack the Nazis any time soon. A few years down the road yes but not immediately
