Hey, that's a good idea. The Republican candidates go on JRE or Timcast to host real debates. Neither of them are nominally partisan, but have center to center-Right audiences to tap into.

I remain gobsmacked none of the candidates or even big name Republicans have gone on to do something like Nick Rekieta's streams covering events. A moderator and 2-3 GOP names -- Trump, Cruz, DeSantis, for example -- sitting around an office drinking beer and watching Biden's State of the Union, pausing to laugh at him and point out the lies, would bring in millions of views and fundamentally change politics as we know it going forward.

EDIT: I'd also add that it's important that the audience not be hostile to begin with. As we learned from Ya Boi Zack, media pieces are either fluff pieces or hit pieces. When the audience is hostile, it's like Jordan Peterson on Real Time with Bill Mahr; he just gets tuned out.

Given how his previous two debates were "Trump vs the other guy + Moderation team" I don't blame them for that in the least. And we all remember Obama getting a hand up by the moderator against Romney that one time. Having said that, yeah, unless they replace Biden, there's no fucking way they let the thing go on. Perfect world for the Dems? Virtual debate, where they can use readily available technology to deepfake Biden. Even if they didn't go that route, they'd be able to teleprompter him in real time. They'd be able to arbitrarily cut Trump off and the like, too.

In person debate with a neutral third party is the only way to go, but they can't do that. So there won't be a debate. All that's left is the spin.

My dream moderator? Joe Rogan. That would be hilarious as hell.

I wonder if they would ever do a two moderator debate?

For example, Rachel Maddow gets 40 minutes and Tucker Carlson gets 40 minutes. The second debate, Brian Stelter gets 40 minutes and Ben Shapiro gets 40 minutes. Maybe not those people, but that format.

Republicans have already said they aren't participating in debates if the current governing body is in place. Dems will hem and haw but the last thing they will allow is Biden or Harris to debate Trump. Honestly it's for the better and i hope Trump has longform discussions on independent media.

I agree that the current debate format leaves much to be desired, but I disagree that republicans should completely forego them. No matter what reasons are given, the media and democrats (repeating myself there) will still loudly portray it as weakness, and that the republicans are afraid to be scrutinized onstage.

Of course, that^ will be bullshit, but the optics at play will make people believe it. Remember during Perdue vs. Ossoff when Perdue was absent from the final debate (and later a runoff debate)? Regardless if he was rallying with Trump or in D.C., he needed to fucking show up. What Perdue did allowed for Ossoff to paint him as a pussy-ass weakling in a full-on negative light with zero pushback from the candidate or moderators. And when the folks at home see an empty podium where you should be standing, it’s difficult to look at those optics and see anything other than weakness. It looks if you’re afraid of being scrutinized and questioned, which is a lose-lose situation any way you slice it. I can’t look at Perdue skipping those debates and not think that the optics involved contributed to his lackluster results and Ossoff’s win. It just appears like you don’t give a shit, which is a political liability.

Just to clarify the wording, gender studies isn't being banned, it's just being removed from (what I assume is) the state university, where it was presumably previously funded by state tax dollars.

99% of the time, [State] University/University of [State] = public university = state-funded, and after looking it up I can confirm that U of Wyoming is indeed a public school. It makes sense that the state has at least some oversight over how their money is being used.
