Centering the issue around crying is concealing the real point, which is that it's okay for men to go into hysterics over nothing. Someone posted a pretty good article about the way the sky is always falling with these people on the last page, here's an excerpt:

crying is a healthy and natural response to a lot of strong emotions, so they frame it as being about that when it's really about telling people they're not allowed to find it obnoxious that someone is constantly worked up and shrieking bloody murder over the dumbest things.

That's more likely sheer laziness than any physical reason.
There are quite a lot of women who are joining up, with absolutely no training, so this dudes unwillingness is simply from feeling that it's beneath him to do his duty and that he deserves to be airlifted out of the country.
