I think he’s trying to course correct and track towards the center (A La Bill Clinton after his first midterms).

Doesn't really work when you've spent the better part of a year actively attacking and villifying the right, and insulting anyone on the center who thinks they can hold mixed opinions. People are highlighting the whole new face of media and public awareness, but the real thing that torpedoed it is the extreme polarization across the board.

When the gulf between the right and the left are so extreme, walking to the center is just walking off a cliff.
