Crime 5 Iowa juveniles to face hate crime charges after sleepover

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Police in the Des Moines suburb of Clive say five juveniles face hate crime charges after using racial slurs against another child at a sleepover.

Clive police Lt. Mark Rehberg says six juveniles ages 12 and 13 had a sleepover on Friday.

Five of the children allegedly used racial slurs and threw footballs and other objects at one of the children.

The Polk County Attorney’s Office determined harassment and simple assault charges were appropriate.

But Rehberg said the assault charges were upgraded to hate crime charges because racial slurs were allegedly used.

What’s more likely in current year? White kids bullying a black kid, or black kids bullying a white kid?
Who would be more scared and likely to be assaulted, a lone white kid in a black school, or a lone black kid in a white school?

I’ve never seen black schools celebrating any aspect of whiteness the way white schools lube up their collective assholes every February.
What's more likely in current year, a black person being held accountable for anti-white racism, or a meteor being struck by lightning as it descends from space during the Stanley Cup and landing on a discarded Furby in a landfill which spontaneously reassembles into a sentient half robot half meteor creature whose only goal in life is to live up to the legacy of Wayne Gretzky?

Loaded question of course. The lightning-powered space Furby that plays hockey is infinitely more likely.

I feel bad for all the children in the 90s, who were still called the N word. It was supposedly such a progressive time, yet black kids were still treated like crap. It's sad. Children should never have to experience racism.
Sort-of agree. Being called a nigger out of nowhere is a shitty thing to experience. But if a kid talks in ebonics, aspires to be a rapper, sags their jeans and generally acts like a nigger, well…

Something about this article stinks. Why were the police called at all? Did the bullied child get injured or something? The article is so vague it sounds like they were just rough housing (normal kid stuff) and then what... I guess the parents were butthurt enough to call the cops? What parent would want to do that, especially if the kids are (were?) friends?

Did the bullied kid run home and tell his mom, who then called the cops? Why would she want the cops involved, even if the kids did use racial slurs? Is she just a drama queen that wanted to cause trouble? If so, wouldn't the cops see this as a waste of time and tell the parent to stop wasting resources on normal kid stuff? Why would they want more paperwork and a media scandal (like now)? They would have to know that kids getting charged for harassment and assualt is a bad look; adding a hate crime charge to the list looks even worse.

These are the ideas I have where this story makes sense:

1. The bullied kid was actually severely bullied/tormented, the charges are justified, and this article is downplaying it

2. The bullied kid has very wealthy/connected parents, who are using their wealth/connections to punish these kids

3. The police have been infiltrated with woke policies, and rather than tell overacting parents to stfu, they're deciding to use this case to push their SJW causes. No idea how likely this is, since I have no idea what Iowa police are like.

edit: I just Google the Polk county attorney office, and they have 10 one star reviews on Google, but otherwise I can't find much about them. Maybe a kiwi from the area would know more about the culture/politics of Polk county.

I'd call my nigger friends niggers and they would call me a honkey or a cracker. Everyone would laugh. Good times.

That sounds pretty wholesome. I'm imagining it something like this, complete with backing music and bits of scat singing:

This is literally how most teenagers spend their weekends. As a kid I loved joking about having to carry around my schoolbag so that it wouldn't get stolen by gypsies.

I had to start hiding my powerlevel because my mom caught me being racist against Italians when I was on the phone with my friend.

The article isn't just vague, it's frustratingly vague. Deliberate race baiting IMO. The fact that the first paragraph starts out saying the charges are for racial slurs, only to clarify later that there are assault charges and objects were thrown at the other kid, is just BS.

Definitely a case to keep an eye on. It could be anything from friendly roughhousing and banter that the parents went fucking ape shit over, or they could have actually been trying (and succeeding) to hurt the kid.

Exactly. I read other articles trying to get some more information, but it's all more or less the same vague bullshit. The kids were throwing a football and "other objects" at the kid. There's no telling what "other objects" could be... could be pillows or a bunch of rocks. Hate this kind of "journalism".

Illinois and thus Chiraq are right next door; you get more blacks than you would think in the larger cities.
I always felt like "Chicongo" captured the essence of that urban hive full of ook-ooks a little better, tbh.
Of course it's in Des Moines. Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Waterloo are all pozzed and not really representative of the rest of the state, which is perhaps the most based in the union.
The playpen for all the Chicago filth's children seeking out of state college should absolutely be included in that list. That shit sounds like it's been a problem for decades.

True, but Iowa City is about 20 minutes down the road from Cedar Rapids and is part of the Cedar Rapids metro area, so I kind of lump them in together. Cedar Rapids is also a repository for Chicago transplants, they have shootings all the time on the south side of town.

Who the fuck is the prosecutor? Hate crime laws do not apply to speech.
