The washington boomer elite still haven't worked out that America's influence is waning on the world stage. They think it is somehow undignified for America to have to influence others, it has to be outright tell and punish if that doesn't work. The problem they have is every occasion they are told no weakens them further, the rest of the world is realising more and more that you can ignore American histrionics and get by just fine. Cosying up to Russia, China, India who are perfectly happy to tell America no and work with others that tell them no too is a viable diplomatic strategy.

I'd disagree with Syria and Bosnia because both of those got a shitton of attention and one got a NATO intervention.
