...Why does Austria even exist? They're worthless. They should have been permanently Anschlussed by Germany.
The Eternal Austrian was the one anchlussing.

That's the downside of never being able to know the story behind some of the content shared.

One of the earlier photos shared back near the end of February showed a (alleged) Russian convoy wreck but surrounded by intact civilian vehicles nearby (as in right beside them in both directions) and the road showing no signs of damage.
Perhaps Russian crews destroyed their own vehicles when they fled?

People often make reference to "historians of the future" in an abstract sense, but I question what one expects when they allude to these people. This and the "right side of history" idea are hazy to me, what if all that is happening is lost in something akin to the bronze age collapse? What if some propogandist just lazily concocts history to suit their needs?
So far as I can tell "right side of history" is just a way of admitting you're a complete moron who doesn't know jack-shit.
The United States' biggest problem is that they insist on following rules even though nobody thinks they are the good guys and everyone knows they are liars.
We are the good guys though at least compared to the other bad guys and plus on top of that we have to lie because you motherfuckers can't handle the truth.

Afghanistan should be a smoking crater devoid of life and the United States could have accomplished that in about a month if they wanted to. The world would be a better place if America actually used the power it had rather than kowtow to the sensibilities of citizens and nations that make no bones about how much they hate the United States.
Off topic, but Afghanistan didn't exactly hate America. They just refused to give up a dude who asked for sanctuary in their country. Then we toppled their (relatively new) government and spent years in guerilla warfare with the remnants of said government.

History is a lie agreed upon. If you want to be on the "right side of history", you are admitting you are a proliferator of lies.

I'd rather be on the Right Side of Truth.

Is anyone else stuck thinking about Mariupol? I can't get it out of my head.

A quick reminder. The defence of the city is being led by the Azov Battalion, a group best known for cringe Nazi tattoos and literally crucifying people as part of a campaign of terror in the Donbas. The besieging forces are Russian, of course, but include numerous paramilitary soldiers from the Donbas region, ie people with axes to grind with the Azov boys. It is going to be the nastiest battle of the war because it is the most personal, as many people in the thread already know.

This would be fine if it was in a colosseum and there were no innocent people between the two sides but actually 200,000 civilians are stuck in the city. There have been TWO attempted corridors to get civilians out, both times the corridors have collapsed in sudden and alarming fashion.

Why?

The Ukrainians and the Western press say that it is because of the Russians, naturally. Also naturally the Russians say it is the Ukrainian defenders that are keeping the civilians around. Who is telling the truth?

I would say that whoever benefits the most from the civilians being in the city is likeliest to be the ones sabotaging the evacuation efforts. So who benefits?

The Russians could be concerned that Azov fighters could disguise themselves as refugees to leave the city and then pop up somewhere else. ISIS fighters used to do stuff like this. Ultimately I think this is a weak reason, though.

The Ukrainians on the other hand have a much better reason. The Russians have proven time and again that their ideal battle is one where they pummel their enemies with artillery from about 20 miles away. Look at Grozny, for example. The Azov boys know that Russia would love to just burn them off the face of the earth but they can't as long as there are too many civilians in the area. They are human shields.

The Azov Battalion, I should remind you, are the kind of people who filmed themselves raping, murdering and even crucifying people for the cause. I highly doubt they would turn their noses up at collateral damage like this.

Here is a video of a girl in Mariupol being told she can't leave the city. It doesn't particularly prove anything, it just reminds us that these are real people we are talking about that are about to get put through a meatgrinder while Putin, Zelenskyy and the lugenpress turn the handle.

For me, I think it is all too obvious why the civilians are stuck in Mariupol. I also think it is all too obvious that you should rate this post informative or your mother will die in her sleep tonight.
Peter Lavelle was talking about this on his webshow a few days ago with George Szamuely. I think on Friday. He claimed that acquaintances and (now) former coworkers from RT (and I have no reason not to believe him) stuck in Mariupol are not remaining in the city because they want to. Azov is keeping them there and preventing anyone from leaving for the very reasons you laid out. You should watch his show, you'd probably find it interesting to hear someone validate your thoughts.

Right side of history is an even gayer appeal to authority than the usual form of that fallacy

For all we know future historians will condemn us all for wearing shoes because everyone will be hobbits in the year 3535 and they won't even give a shit about which bunch of vodkaniggers was right to bitchslap the other bunch of vodkaniggers. Don't even get me started on what they'll say about our negative opinion of pipe-weed

Why does western powers have,

1) High currency value and stable economies
2) Top of the line military equipment and engineers
3) Overall good basic infrastructure (some peoples sheds/garages are built more sturdy then apartments in china)
4) More land per square inch with an easy to manage population size (we are comfy)
5) Almost every service I use is western built (how many people use Russian services not living in Russia?)
6) Best healthcare
7) Most consumer options
8. Main Producers of cutting edge technology and computers, shout out to Taiwan
9) Overall general happiness polled in the top 20 of worldwide nations
10) Most acceptable and tolerant countries to live in.

The problem is more that the US DoD is answerable [kinda] to at least a segment of the American public: the parents of its troops. They care less about the bad press generated by making total war against the refuse of humanity than they do that which can be generated by the appearance of throwing the "best" of America's youth into a meat grinder.

2022 should be an eye-opening year to anyone who has ever doubted the idea that most people are utterly ignorant and easily manipulated. The populace is cattle for elites --they can easily manufacture "public" opinion and sway the sea of people into any direction that is convenient for the elites. There is no "hope in the proles" when the proles are the first ones to cheer on the state-mandated two-minutes-hate.
hard hard hard disagree

that's a small loudmouth extremely online minority

then there's a bunch of people who just want to grill.

two minutes hate doesn't actually work on the second group. people just don't care that much. Orwell wrote a good book but he was imagining things and tech he hadn't experienced.

now what the elites *can* do is keep the masses disinterested in politics, by associating political involvement with the loudmouth minority.
