Funny you mention the Baltics. Riga and it's the emptiest major city I've ever inhabited. The place legitimately felt like it was half abandoned (despite the buildings being in quite good shape - it's a mecca for Art-Nouveau fans) and the ethnic Latvians are culturally extremely introverted people it seems (though they aren't even half of Riga's population - I heard much more Russian than Latvian spoken despite all the signage being in Latvian). This was all before Covid, and having swung through it very recently it felt just as empty as it was before. Like 4-5 people on any given large street at a time, maybe 12 maximum. Very eerie.
I heard most of their youth buggered off to greener pastures in the EU proper thanks to visa-free migration. And now I want to see Riga because I am an Art-Nouveau fan. Welp.

Because the only people nostalgic about the USSR are those born in the sixties who miss their youthful libido and guaranteed employment.
Meet Eugene Bazhenov, the man who commands more respect among Russia's movie fans than everyone else taken together, and his millions of fans. (There are other people capitalizing on Communism, but this guy is sincere, "apolitical", has the widest appeal, and earns the most money.) All movie fans are nostalgic about the USSR if only because the USSR was making watchable movies; in contrast, Russia's moviemakers have been embezzling money and shitting the bed for 30 years.

Spoiler: Ukraine cut Crimea off from potable water access. Russia eventually got fed up with it.
Exactly. Honestly @L50LasPak should put it in the op: the Sevastopol base 2017 deadline, the Kharkov Accords, water.

Traitor Rag Dispatch: the most affected pt 2

Once again, meduza.io put out the call for user stories, and from those submitted it handpicked and published the most touching and tragic ones. Read on as people lose their dreams and livelihoods:

A brave and stunning man runs a print shop doing huge amounts of contract work for various government agencies and state corporation, filtering them through a network of fake competitors to bypass 44-FZ. Now he's valiantly decided to never do any work for the government. This will cost him 80% of revenue, so he's going to fold and look for other work during what everyone says is shaping up to be the worst downturn of the century.

A woman worked at Ikea, which has closed. Ikea will pay her salary for 3 more months. She's decided to (((repatriate to Israel))) which she has been planning for two years now, BUT her evil ex won't let her kidnap the baby.

An outsource software developer (a programmer, not the owner). The company lost European contracts which made up 20% of its revenue, and a single US client who accounted for another 60%. It is STILL breaking even. Nevertheless he quit and will be emigrating to a CIS country.

A woman who worked for Visa Russia. Her words: "For over two years [she's lying, it's been almost SEVEN years - S], NSPK [the Russian clearing center - S] has been doing all the work but we have been the ones getting paid for it. We did nothing whatsoever. It was a very easy job. Visa wasn't going to ever leave but everything changed over the holidays (March 7-8) which were workdays in the US. We were promised 6 months' severance pay but they lied and it has never materialized ["never"? it's only been one day, cunt - S]. We're asking to get hired by Visa overseas but it looks like we're toxic for now. I will be emigrating with my family."

A man who was "exploring himself", "dabbled" at multiple well-paid jobs and finally arrived at doing his all-time dream job: being a freelance sound director. And now Upwork stopped paying Russians and he can find no gigs anywhere else. He doesn't want to look for a job: he's going to stay unemployed and improve his sound-directing skills and then emigrate.

A woman who worked at a "major international company" in Moscow. Got fired with two months' severance pay, during which the company is going to open a Russian subsidiary and rehire everyone, but she's AFRAID FOR HER LIFE because FSB WILL BE HUNTING DOMESTIC ENEMIES, so she bought crypto with all her savings and moved to Georgia (the country).

A man who worked for a logistics firm with a single client. The client can't pay because of sanctions and has suspended operations (not leaving, just can't figure out payments yet). He's planning to emigrate to Kazakhstan.

A man who worked from home for a German company's subsidiary since last December. The subsidiary has closed up shop and kicked everyone out, no severance, he tried to emigrate to Yurop that very instant but got cockblocked, so he's now resigned to having to look for a job in Russia, surviving and suffering [exact words].

My heart is breaking. Thots and prayers.

(I have to emphasize this is NOT SATIRE. These are the people wokeshit libs want Russians to feel sorry for. If you're wondering why Putin's popularity skyrocketed, this is why.)

I saw this vlog who was posted Yesterday about Zelensky. I don't know how credible it is but some Youtubers dropped some comments who make it smile a bit while other gived some food for thoughts. Some comments of these kind might by already mentioned but it might be worth to repost again.
Nigerians are complaining that gas went up to $1.50/gal

Not sure if Senegal subsidizes gas. I guess they probably are if it's that cheap.

Most EU leaders are atlanticist whores and opportunists, though.
Fucking over your nation's economy with sanctions, because the jew-media cheers for it? Done in a heartbeat!
That's part of what I'm getting at. It's easier to blame one entity than point out the subversion in your own country because then the onus is on you to fix it.

Huh, Bad Comedian is a communist sympathiser? I had no idea. I guess you learn something new every day.

Saint Fauci directly funded the Wuhan Lab. They have no qualms whatsoever about whoring out to hostile foreign powers.
None of these assholes will ever be held accountable even if Mega AIDs infused Bubonic Tuberculosis Plague leaks out will they?
Education USA Ukraine
America House Kyiv

Maybe this organization was involved with it.
Those two glow bright
Footage would get out, yes. But western media has no problems lying about absolutely everything, so they'd blame it on a Russian bioweapon or something instead. Sure, some crazies would be like "wait one moment" but then they get branded as conspiracy theorists and aggressively chased off any communication platforms, just like it happened during covid. At the end no one cares if some autists on the internet know the truth if the majority believes in the lie.
I'm expecting the next pandemic Gates was talking about sometime last year will be a Ukrainian lab leak and Russia is the perfect cover story isn't it? They don't even have to lie about a wet market with this one.

Aren't ethnic Latvians projected to become a minority int their own country due to that brain drain?

I've heard that Riga is even more of a ghost town since Covid started. Honestly, having been there, I like how different it feels from every other major European city. The amount of people who speak Russia there almost makes it feel like it's still a province of Russia.
It's one of the prettiest cities I've had the privilege of staying in - no doubt about it. Definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a more quiet, less touristy (and relatively cheap) European vacation. Cozy is the best word I could come up with to describe Riga. But yeah, this is how busy most streets look in the middle of the day.

It definitely does feel like you've wandered into a part of the city that you're not supposed to be in. Also, the least crowded public transit I've ever been in.

At least St. Petersburg has a wealth of Art Nouveau! Dom Knigi/Singer House on Nevsky Prospekt being one of my favorite examples, along with Vitebsky Bokzal, Elisiyev Emporium and many, many more.
