The two games shows what truly brings the salt out of him. With single player games, there's always ways to "cheese" them and the ai always have weak areas and lack the ability to adapt to those strategies. That's elden ring, where guides can tell you the best weapons to get and boss patterns so he's always at an advantage. All he needs is to be patient enough for his guide to work.
With KOF (and other fighting games), when playing online, all those advantages he can get disappear. Real people learn and adapt to your game plan, the most you can know going in is a character's win conditions but you can't rely on a guide to get you through. You can have a character with an advantageous matchup but that's as far as you can stack the deck.
Combine it with his inflated ego over the genre and it's why he gets incredibly salty. He believes that his "fundamentals" (from when he played sf2 over a decade ago) are more than enough to make him one of the best players so when he loses to "scrubs" he gets insanely defensive.
The only thing that provokes a similar reaction out of him are racing games (and mainly ones that don't let him rewind his fuck ups) largely due to how much of it relies on in the moment decisions over preparation and knowing strategies. That and being blind means he can't see when he's driving into a wall.
He also behaves like he has an extreme phobia of experimentation. He's always trying for the exact same combos and moves every time. Also his complaints about auto combos make zero sense. If they are as easy and powerful as he claims, why not use them? Instead he tries to brute force the same move, no matter how unsafe they are.
