They haven't gone in to full extent but they also haven't gone in soft. The losses that are being seen aren't just backwards ass troops. There are plenty of captured or destroyed Russian T-90's, T-80's, Su-34's, Su-30's, etc. There are enough spetsnaz GRU/GU troops being killed, let alone the VDV or SOBR. To think that Russia is doing well is a laughable assessment, weather Ukraine will win or not is still up for debate, but what you can DEFINITELY say is that Russia is not doing well.

Nothing says soft like decades old expired MREs, abandoned vehicles out the ass, and only managing to capture a single major city in nearly 3 whole weeks of combat. Russia vastly underestimated Ukraine resistance, sure they'll probably win in the end, but it will be a pyrrhic victory overall and might not even get all they want out of the peace talks. Amphibious Landings are probably the most difficult type of operation to succeed, and when the enemy knows you're coming for weeks, has multiple Anti-Ship Cruise Missiles designed to sink a ship the size of a transport in one strike, and given how the Russians have done so far overall, forgive my doubts of this not being a total disaster for them.

How costly and how much land lost are the questions, not weather Ukraine will win. I wouldn't bet on Ukraine even if you gave me the money to do it.
