To try and be more informative with my posts, @LurkTrawl , someone in the first thread mentioned that all Ukrainian grain was planted before winter, so everything is in the ground dormant until growing season. No idea if that's true, but it does explain the no-care attitude about grain everybody has right now. If that's true, I guess it depends on when harvest season is...

Yeah, I really don't get why some people seem so butthurt about Zelensky constantly begging for military aid and acting like he should just shut up and be grateful for any scraps he gets. Asking for help is kind of his job. He's the president of Ukraine. He's supposed to do everything within his power to defend it from its enemies. That includes recruiting military allies amongst other nations to send troops. Especially when his nation is being fucking invaded.

Yes that would mean foreigners dying for his country. That is not anything new or unusual. It's happened in many wars. Practically every British and American man who died in WWI did so for someone else's country. Zelensky should no more feel bad about that than Belgium felt bad about all the British men who died because they didn't want to let Germany march through them, or Serbia felt bad about Russia essentially destroying itself fighting their enemies.

So of course Zelensky's going to ask and beg for all the help he can get and try and talk NATO into playing a game of chicken directly with Putin. He has very little to lose in the attempt of asking, and if he gets what he asks for and Putin flinches, its a big win for him and his country. Nor does he have a reason to stop asking just because a little help was provided. In his shoes it's perfectly reasonable to keep asking in hopes that someone will change their mind about going to war as the situation shifts. Hell, I'd bet the only reason that more countries haven't gotten directly involved in the war is likely that all the nearby countries that would be willing to do so in support of Ukraine have already successfully joined NATO, thus restricting what they can do as a practical matter.

I'm assmad about that sockpuppet calling for no-fly zones and WW3 because the standard of life of my own country has already handicapped itself to service an economy that for several years has been worse than pre-war Syria. Zelensky's win condition if he manages to convince people is me and everyone else dying in a nuclear holocaust. His lose condition is his country being run by oligarchs slightly further away than it was already and he himself retiring to speaking gigs for millions of dollars on top of the ones he already has in offshore bank accounts.

When did I ever say Russia is definitely losing and gonna leave? It is still up for debate who will win or what not. I'm just saying that just because he is begging for aid doesn't mean Ukraine is getting their shit pushed in (and from the info I see, they aren't).

I think it's a valid criticism to say that if you hate the Russians for invading your country and you are a man of fighting age you should go try to do something to stop them. Uh, no, generally the president is only a figure-head with actual power resting in parliament or the Prime Minister. I guess the "semi-presidential" system gives him a bit more freedom than other post-East Bloc shitholes, though. Like begging people to give weapons to arm his citizenry, so that they can be targeted by Russians.

He can defend, or save, his country by surrendering and ceasing all this bloodshed. It's on him, honestly.

The reason people disagree with him is because Ukraine is not a country worth dying over for foreign nationals. This is as much a regional conflict as it is Yemen's war with Saudi Arabia.

They've been handing out weapons to civilians so they can fight the Russians so clearly their defense plan doesn't just rely on skilled armed forces and includes anybody who wants to fight and is able to, something that you are capable of. That is the point.
