Devils advocate here, arming your civilians and telling them to kill commit suicide by soldier is actually a propaganda tool to get westerners to pity you an intervene. What are a few thousand dead civvies to start nuclear war?

I wouldn't be surprised if thats also the plan with the western volunteers. Sent those dumb bastards into the meat grinder under or even unequipped and hope that when the group eats a cruise missile that one of the corpses was related to a powerful western politician.

TL;DR Ukraine didn't exist until 1989, the Russians created Ukraine and all Ukrainians speak Russian

It's funny how the world is mocking Russia for their "special military operation" bullshit which they have made illegal for citizens to call it a war but if NATO goes in they will call it something like a "limited peace keeping operation" or a "tactical training operation" or a "democracy preservation special mission" or something and you will probably be considered a Russian operative if you call it a proxy war or an invasion.

Now I need to do some research to see how death camp guards were treated after they surrendered to see if they were actually executed on the spot or if this was just Hollywood doing more historical fiction. As it has been pointed out, when the enemy is made out to be the personification of evil then you can do anything to them without losing sleep. What you did was not wrong or made you no better than the enemy, you got the rest of the world empathizing with you. It wasn't revenge, it was justice.
