Oh yeah one more very important thing: Putin did not "invade and annex Crimea." Crimea separated itself from the illegitimate regime in Kiev, then the people had a referendum and freely chose to become a part of Russia.

have to disagree- putin did take the initiative to take crimea, the crimeans didnt do it themselves (or at least to begin with) but the elections were legitimate. putin knew the ukranians would never accept a referendum, he knew nato and the west wouldnt allow it, so he went fuck it and took crimea. the people there did want to be part of russia, the votes reflect that regardless of how many ballots the russians stuffed. could he have taken it through soft power (gas dependency), who knows? things are past the point russia can do that now

That pilot couldn't have survived. Flying low makes you harder to detect and engage from the ground, but it makes ejecting nearly impossible if you have horizontal/downward momentum. The only aircraft that can get away with ejecting at low altitudes are ones with VSTOL capabilities (AV-8B, F-35), and they have to essentially be hovering.

Modern ejection seats can be deployed at ass-puckering altitudes.

The issue here seems to be that the aircraft was already rolling to the left so the seat was ejected downwards which gave the chute no time to deploy.

I wasn't aware that Ukraine even had planes left to shoot down or safe runways for them to take off from. I wonder how much hardware they actually have holed up in their USSR bunkers...

That said, it looked like the Russians shot them down pretty easy in that dogfight, with no losses on their side.

So much for that "Ghost of Kiev shooting down 5 Russian MiGs in one sortie" propaganda.

The Su-25 is the Eastern equivalent to the A-10. It's a dedicated ground pounder with very limited air to air capabilities.

So a late question, why is Zelensky so hated? Yeah I heard the spiel of him being a globohomo agent that won the elections unfairly. I can't say how much it is real, but for a globohomo stooge it seems he actually cares about Ukraine and tries to improve the situation as much as he can. Otherwise he'd have evacuated to a new country the moment the invasion started, like we fully expect a lot of countries presidents and elite will do.

I have no fucking clue about him or what the Ukrainians thought about him before he got the natural boost of being a leader during wartime, and I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on eastern european politics. I do know, however, that his approval rating before all this was about thirty one percent. Not exactly indicative of a popular fellow.
