From my minimal knowledge of Russian military tactics, nearly nonexistent military expertise, and my limited understanding of the fronts of the war I'm assuming they may have the Belarusian army distract them and push the Ukrainian capital, pull Russian forces from the North and around Kiev and relocate/refocus in the south, and continue to take southeastern Ukraine in an attempt to landlock the Country. It would be seen as a significant win if they can take coast and I wouldn't be surprised if they called their Military operation a success after that.

I don't know much about Belarus, and I'm sure I'm getting very filtered info, but isn't there a sizable opposition to both the war and current Belarusian leadership in the country? I'm not sure if the move could spark civil unrest there.

The Ukrainians are just a notch above the Russians when it comes to intelligence. The Belarusians are absolute monkey people to both of them. So take that as you will factoring into what if scenarios.

Locals protest against Russian troops and sing the anthem of the united Ukraine. Russian troops took out the speakers and turned on the anthem of the Soviet Union. I won't lie, this is a pretty funny response.

I can't make it out in the video, but I think it bears mention that the USSR and Russian Federation anthems use the same melody, just different lyrics.

Normally I'd chime in to talk about how America is an even bigger violent shithole, but it's fucking Sweden, I can't even defend it. Last I checked the rape rate was twice as high as the US. Of course, normal violence is much more common in the US, but the Swedish suicide has been harrowing.

A. is such an unrealistic option that it's absurd to even write out. If Russia felt that cutting off supplies from the West was even a remote possibility with <60.000 soldiers with Soviet era equipment, they would have tried it already. As entertaining as watching an army trapped in the 1970s get obliterated by NATO weaponry would be, Belarus is joining to give further legitimacy to Russia's attack and then supply probably 10.000-30.000 soldiers in a supportive role to current Russian maneuvers. If there are a few units of the Belarusian Army that have decent equipment on more than just paper that Lukashenko is willing to risk, then they'll probably assist with attacks on strongpoints like Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kyiv's suburbs.

Also mobilizing defense assets along the border. There are several large staging areas inside Belarus. Turning the defense of those over will free up more security and logistics people for the new forward logistics hubs inside Ukraine.

Looks like Belarus will join the war in the coming days, 11 staff members have left the Belarus embassy and now photos arre coming out that claim to be Belarus soldiers wearing red armbands like some the Donbass soldiers are.

And that might just be our something major that changes. If they do commit, then throw my predictions for the conventional war out the window, but to make some early guesses:

How this goes is going to depend a lot on how seriously Ukraine has been preparing for the possibility. They know Belarus taking a stroll along the Polish border is going to fuck them, but it's easy to neglect the front that isn't actively fighting yet. I've been modeling my guesses on the assumption that the people involved aren't braindead morons, so I presume that they won't just get thrown at the Kiev front to join in the hurry-up-and-wait.

Belarus' political situation is reportedly highly unstable, and I suspect that this is what has kept them out of the war thus far. If they're going in now, it's either because they trust Putin to keep them from getting the Mussolini Experience, or they're even more afraid of what he'll do if they don't commit.

Even if this is the tide-turner, Russia still has a long and ugly occupation ahead of them, so I'd suggest not indulging the vodka too hard. It's getting mighty expensive these days.

EDIT: It's also worth noting that the drive on Lvov option drastically increases the risk of things spilling over due to a bad case of battlefield retardation causing someone to walk or shoot a little to far to the west.
