Please....Russia expected and planned for another 2014 in Ukraine. Didn't happen. I don't call dropping VDV as going in soft. They wanted that airhead and fucked it up. Logistics sadly wanting. Your tanks should have supply trains of trucks coming fairly close behind. Guess not. Where are the vaunted "Armada" tanks, that should have crushed Ukrainian armor? All fifteen of them, since Russia apparently can't afford more? Your troops should have packaged operational rations that didn't expire years ago. Your troops should be told the truth about the operation, not lied to. Your bombers should be able to come right in over their targets instead of hiding over the Rodina lobbing cruise missiles. Air superiority should have happened in hours, and air supremacy in days. These brave Russian men and boys are paying the price for the rot and corruption permeating the Russian armed forces. Generals and colonels are getting waxed because they must go up front to ensure things happen. Could that be because junior and mid-grade officers have no flexibility in adapting to changes on the battlefield, and Russia has no noncommissioned officer corps worth mentioning?

Russia's only claim to military power these days is in the Strategic Rocket Forces, if they haven't fallen victim to corruption.

Russia may eke out a victory, but they have long since lost much more.
Remember that all pre-war analysts said that Russian’s logistics were based on rail and pipe and not trucks because, partly, they didn’t have enough drivers to carry their logistics the way Americans do. As a matter of fact, it was stated that if they used trucks, they would have to use conscripts to drive them.

To me, this seems to support the narrative that Russia did go in soft, however, the other part of their doctrine is that they do want conflicts to be very very quickly so there’s that.

It’s been 4 weeks now, so I’m not really ready to call it a quagmire since the Iraq invasion took much longer and destroyed more infrastructure and killed a lot more civilians; yet that invasion is lauded as Perfection in Military all the time.

We shall see.

>fuhrer zelensky
>directs war from the kiev fuhrerbunker
>says won't leave city
>instructs civilians and children to attack enemy tanks
>concripts poorly equipped militias
>declares urban festungs which get levelled by russians
>paramilitaries shoot "defeatist" civilians
>rambles constantly about total war
>is constantly drugged
>says miraculous help will come soon
>endsieg?

Note that I do not wish to offend any side and that this war has been a significant miscalculation of Putin. This war would not even happen if both sides knew how to practice some Cold War diplomacy, instead of engaging in moralising nonsense to conceal their greedy and shortsighted nature. It was a mistake of NATO to feed lies to Zelensky about aid in case of a war, and a mistake of Putin to escalate his brinksmanship to an actual war which will be hardly sustainable for the Russian military-industrial complex.
I wish Zelensky would skip ahead to the part where he kills the fuhrer.

Yet they are seizing the accounts and property of private Russian citizens.
yeah, of politically connected millionaires and billionaires
i seriously doubt that the type of russians for whom emigration is a serious consideration now feel sad about the likes of abramovich losing their football clubs in england, their yachts in italy, their holiday mansions in spain, or their shell companies in frankfurt lel

Look out, we got a real Russian Military Expert here! He's going to BTFO everyone here, like he did to me, lmao

Protip: Other countries don't have FIOA and even the DoD hasn't a firm grasp on what Russia has. In other words, you don't know shit.
There a plenty of Russian-focused analysts that disagree that Russian equipment is a joke. There are areas of improvement but they all agree that they have the capability to fuck up NATO if it came to it.

They don’t have a US type navy but their mission is different and they are not power projectors other than territories close to them.

Their artillery is probably the best but they are lacking in smart bombs, for example. Russian military being blind as compared to Americans is a weakness they recognized 10 years ago and recently found a way to remove this handicap. When I say recently, I mean about 3 years ago, on open source stuff, so probably much longer than that.

A lot of people are under the delusion that it will trigger the Ides of March for Putin and an Oligarch coup will happen - which won’t - they’re too entwined with Putin for that to happen.

The sanctions are mostly for domestic optics and to cleanse themselves of Russian money.

If you don't understand why it's a bad tactic and that innocent people are going to be caught up in this, I'm not wasting my time explaining it to you. It's simply not going to do anything except make Western oligarchs richer and Russians poorer.

For every Abramovich (who will still have a roof over his head and live well) there will be Russian businesses and workers suddenly left with no way to pay the bills.

Their equipment is good but I have no idea what's going on with VVS. I'm probably just used to the US military though. Russia might not care about air superiority.

I consider Cold War Soviet and current Russian equipment of being generally of average to good quality (if we put into account the era for which they were made) with some exceptional systems, like SAMs, SPAAGs, and supersonic interceptors. However, I find the comparison of equipment to be a rather poor metric. This war has shown us that not only the Russian military has retained the weaknesses of the Soviet one, but has forgotten all the lessons and advantages of Soviet doctrine.

@Vince McMahon I understand you're in a bad spot but don't even try to pretend Zelensky is a good guy. I don't even get why you go around disliking, it doesn't do anything but make you look MATI.
Fuck that midget. If he wants to throw Ukrainians underneath Russian tank treads, more power to him, and I'd gladly approve of selling them more weapons to do so. But don't try dragging my ass into your gay little regional conflict via WWIII just because you convinced yourself that the shitheel politicians using your country as a defense spending funnel into their friend's and family's bank accounts gave even the slightest shit about keeping you in power.

i think they could also be intended as long term punishment, as a deterrent.
like, if russia goes into a long, harsh and painful economic decline for the next two decades as a result of this situation, by 2040 people in all countries will look at the ruined remains of russia and unanimously agree that going for this invasion was a major blunder, a huge mistake. this would contribute to everybody thinking twice before trying to go for similar aggressive military adventures in the future.

whether it works out this way, we can't predict at this point, but i think that is part of the intention.

For every Abramovich (who will still have a roof over his head and live well) there will be Russian businesses and workers suddenly left with no way to pay the bills.
yes, and every russian business unable to pay the bills further reduces moscows available tax base and contributes to economic downturn. the goal is to damage the russian economy as a whole.

Ok, so what west is supposed to do: express concern, or share thoughts and prayers?
