It appears America and Russia have the same "upgrade the current over developing new" tech tree path.
It's just America has more money power, and more people interested in America being dominant in terms of technology and force capability.
How many times has there been a new weapon system announced by any country, and then a 5-10 year backtrack towards adding shit onto pre-existing equipment because their new design ended up being a boondoggle?
Many tanks, many light attack vehicles, many armored personnel carriers have been "developed" only for the military to send out their boys in the same old shit with some new armor welded on, with a new scope on it.
The T-80 just ended up being a new autoloader system for the T-90 which is an upgraded T-72, no?
Logistics apply to manufacturing, and development is expensive.
It appears that most development has been put into electronics and dealing with better and better munitions.
For all the "FUTURE SOLDIER" programs with integrated HUD systems,
MAXIMUM ARMOR, and buzzword tactical system mk0v1a, both Russia and US are still fielding AR-15s and AKs albeit with optics and lasers now.
I'm pretty sure the Challenger is still apex tank, but it also hasn't had to do shit. Thats the irony of all this military development. It's a big prick waving dick contest until shit hits the fan, and everything devolves back into trying to hide your shit from the new laser-guided-heat seeking up your ass missile-rocket-bomb.
