No, there are a good 30,000 members with churches all over the island. Keep in mind the province only has half a million people. Besides a very public hardline against homosexuality and abortion, they picket the one abortion clinic in the province and they have these really bizarre, really specific rules like no going to movies, no drinking, no dancing, no playing cards, some even going as far as women are not allowed to wear their hair short or wear anything but a dress. They have this very insular cradle to grave pipeline, where your kids go to the church after school instead of daycare and they seldom interact with people who are not members of the church. They ran their own schools up until 1997 when the denominational school system was done away with in Newfoundland. They religiously pay pretax tithes to the church and the churches are usually flush with cash and are constantly building these big, elaborate buildings and putting off concerts and stuff.

One of my best friends from high school had an extremely religious Pentecostal mother, and she did not approve of us hanging out because my family was in the United Church.
