Philosophy Tube / Oliver Lennard / Oliver "Olly" Thorn / Abigail Thorn - Breadtube's Patrick Bateman.

I know there are people holding out hope for Joan in this thread to see the light, but I'm not too bothered. I feel like she is the type to latch onto whatever makes things easy for her, like the school bully's drivelling sidekick. She's certainly not stupid and can see the unsavoury side of trans activism for what it is, but that fact that that isn't enough to change her mind tells me there's more to this than just being genuinely convinced. As some others have remarked, there's some degree of ego investment in this for her, and ultimately, she clearly values the approval of these people. I'm not triggered by edgy jokes but kidding about fucking the queen coming from this group of freaks is nasty as hell. She joins in with something like that and it feels like she's just hanging around on the edge of the group wanting to be included by parroting their words back to them.

Generally speaking, yes. I would usually get a mark or 2 marks for each step of simplification of an answer, unless it's specified otherwise, the more succinct the better. You can give the technically correct answer but miss marks on a paper for not whittling it right down to the simplest form.
Oh yeah, I fully want Joan to peak just to spoil it for her really.

What are Alices qualifications- like I assumed he was some kind of engineering guy by virtue of being on that podcast, but if he doesn’t bring anything to it...
It’s amazing that these utterly unbearable people have some sort of cult of personality around them?

It’s such an indictment of .. like everything.
Meritocracy my arse. These are all just private school boys whose parents paid for them to be able to fuck around all day online enough to build a following and also ahvev the confidence that such an upbringing brings, to imagine they are worth self promoting .

Chube isn’t even 30, it’s so fucking lame when people moan about their age, most especially when they are not very old. Like get a personality

& this mf is from like, Brazil or something apparently?

why is it okay to tak about a 95 year old woman like this?
also, that is a -legitamtely-horrifying mental image.

What do these guys think is happening in the UK compared to most first world countries when it comes to trans people exactly. I mean really, not travelling there for human rights concerns? You're probably less likely to be attacked or something for being Trans than you are in America and half of Europe.

I do always like that 'Lesbianism comes naturally' bit, hey Olly, the reason it comes naturally is because you are sexually attracted to women, because you are still a straight man, regardless of the amount of makeup you have on and how much you keep your voice on a strained falsetto.

Yeah the most recent comments have made me lose hope, I try not to be too hard on handmaidens but she's really obnoxious and borderline braindead at times: 1648070229177.png
Like Joanfromlegal really read the above comment (the indented part is her quoting someone else) about how feminists criticize femininity (specifically "White femininity") and somehow came away with "TERFs are white supremacists who uphold Western beauty standards". I can't even comprehend how it's possible to misread something that badly, and how it's possible that she "considers all sides of an argument" when she clearly doesn't know or understand the other sides stances whatsoever.
Also what is this word salad even supposed to mean:

She definitely reminds me of the type that gets super invested in defending marginalized groups she doesn't belong to out of a need to feel morally superior to everyone around her.

Yknow Netflix did that terrible nonsense fluff gay Christmas movie
Maybe they'll greenlight something similar with Abigail? Some sort of comedic caper where Abigail is a heroic activist making video essays and pining after a blonde American, when suddenly a mysterious trans ex from her past who also makes video essays turns up on her doorstop just in time for Christmas to do a collab - and due to a series of wild coincidences, Ollie has to pretend she's currently her girlfriend to her entire family! But can they keep the charade up? Or... do they start to realise it's not such a charade? Call it "O Come All YouTubers" or "The Contra and The Abbie" or something.

You can even throw in a sassy side eyeing trans hijabi character for good measure, and maybe the antagonist is a formerly beloved children's author who keeps getting slapstick humiliated in her scenes (falling down stairs, getting a pie in her face, toppling out a window etc etc).
I think their talents lie in playing disparaging caricatures of cis women so I'm really hoping we get an all-transwoman cast putting on some kind of minstrel show in the near future.

Also JoanFromLegal is an exact illustration of why I don't have much confidence when people say "they'll learn when it happens to them" how many woke figures have been cancelled and realized "shit, I've been making things worse this entire time? I can't believe I helped put people through this extreme anxiety and humiliation for having unpopular opinions"? Basically none. All of them just get stubborn and defensive and insist they really were doing the right thing and are just misunderstood by the very mob they still want to be a part of. Joan doesn't seem to think it's wrong to treat people like shit, just that they're tragically doing it to the wrong person. AfghanBlue is right, this is just wanting the dopamine rush of feeling superior and not actually thinking or caring about anything.

These days I find myself thinking "thank fuck I'm old". And I'm not much older than Olly really - born in the mid-80s - but the divide between myself and what I consider "young people" seems so stark. Like, when I went to uni, only 4-5 years before Olly, I don't remember there being any tranny stuff. I wasn't expected to respect people's pronouns or any of that tedious shit.

All of this woke nonsense is super, super recent. I really believe it's just another fad that will go away, just because the reasoning behind it (to the extent that there is any articulable "reasoning") is sheer nonsense that doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

But then you see the fucking Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, in an interview yesterday smiling and nodding his way through questions like "Can you define the word 'woman'?" with that sort of knowing ahh-nice-try-but-you-can't-goad-me-into-such-an-obvious-trap expression like he'd just been asked to offer a solution to the occupation of the West Bank. And you wonder which side is really winning this culture war.

He was on some podcast. I'm not even close to invested enough in this particular cow to listen to what I assume is 2 hours of a narcissist's ego getting stroked, but thought someone here might find it interesting.

Maybe I'm being overly kind, or perhaps having recently listened to a video with "Lilith" in it has skewed my perspective, but I didn't find Olly's voice annoying or uncanny at all here like I have in the past. I mean his laugh and constant tranny interjections were just that, but it wasn't the nails-on-chalkboard I had anticipated.

This doesn't really surprise me since its the podcast that Alice Avizandum is most well known for, which isn't much of an endorsement, but the other guy who does it (Donoteat) is considerably more bearable and has some insight into things like urban design from a leftist bent. Unfortunately he also willingly associates with the likes of hacks like Avizandum and Olly so maybe I'm going too easy on him.

Its quite odd because its a podcast where you find yourself constantly wondering why Alice is there at all since she doesn't bring anything to the table, and now we have Oliver too for double the fun.
Never realised Avizandum was Alice's stage surname. It means taking time to consider a judgement, which is ironic since that's the opposite of what Ollie did before deciding to transitioning.

It's partially a function of how we classify and report hate crime statistics. Someone yelling "oi, tranny!" out the window of a passing van is a dickhead (just leave people alone) but at the same time, they just committed a hate crime. When it comes to "oi faggot" all the gay guys I know shrug it off, and most of them have experienced it, but that's life. Same with most black people I know - loads have been called racial slurs, but if it's that's all it is, they just shrug it off because that's life. That isn't how life should be, but there'll always be pieces of shit.

Trans people apparently are more inclined to file a police report. So that inflates our anti-trans hate crimes.

The stats are what they are. I've known gay guys who've had their teeth kicked in. I've known black people who've gotten jumped, including women. But it's pretty rare. All the places I've lived - especially London - has its contingent of people who like to mouth off, especially drunk on a night bus (despite the stereotype of British reserve).

What happens is trans people look at the stats and compare "oi tranny" to getting beaten till you're bloody. Part of that is deliberate (we know a lot of trans people want to make themselves The Most Oppressed), but part of it might just be not understanding it.

Put it this way, Ollie isn't in any danger of getting a smack in the mouth. Alice can walk around in a sodding hijab in GLASGOW and be fine. But I guess if you live on the internet, the thought of interacting with people is scary. I've got trans mates who don't even approach passing and to an extent, sure, it takes balls to walk around like that, but you'll pretty much be fine unless you start kicking off. People are weirded out by it so for some reason leave you alone more than if you're some other sort of minority.

I'm sure Rishi loved that question because it momentarily got the heat off him for fucking us all over.

Observing basic reality and then saying "this is SUPER FUCKING PROBLEMATIC, I need to indoctrinate I mean educate myself". It really is a cult.
Most current-day TiMs aren't even naturally feminine, they look like pigs in lipstick. They were masculine men for their whole lives before transitioning and now crossdress because it gives them a boner, I don't know how you could look at that and think "this is femininity in a way just like a natural woman".
Also JoanFromLegal is an exact illustration of why I don't have much confidence when people say "they'll learn when it happens to them" how many woke figures have been cancelled and realized "shit, I've been making things worse this entire time? The only person I can think of that's like that is Jamie Kilstein, the former co-host of Citizen Radio who got dropped from it after multiple women tried to metoo him (I guess not with sufficient evidence) and afterwards he stopped being woke and went on the Joe Rogan podcast.

Up in the early hours due to biological female problems (be jealous Olly you’ll never have the very feminine experience of menstrual cramps)

Continuing to listen to the pod

Confirming my hunch that Abi is a dud child of the Lennard family. Seriously and not just being nasty when I say…. Doesn’t seem to have the aptitude for scientific stuff (which is hilarious as the son of two physicians). He probably thinks he has a lady brain because his brain found maths too difficult and he’s better suited for dressing up and going to high tea

Abi really doesn’t have much to contribute…. Tries to make quippy one liners. Sometimes they are outright ignored. Alice doesn’t either when the two legit nerds are doing their thing and talking about the substance of the pod. It’s nice and refreshing to hear them quiet down and not be able to try to bullshit their way thru it.

At one point the host is talking about the nautical almanac…. And how ppl used to map the position of the stars to navigate ships at sea… how they’d have to change them yearly and update the positions’ movements…. And Abi pops up jeering «haha how oh wow and they probably had no idea why they just thought god was doing it blah blah blah ». The host is like …… no ….. they had some knowledge….

Hearing someone reject abis nonsensical confabulation bullshitting and give a correct answer is actually soooooo refreshing because it (by design) NEVER happens in philosophy chube. And it’s up to kiwi farmers, and then a handful of times each: the youtuber king critical, that actual philosophy prof on YouTube, and Destiny, to point out that so much of it is utter trash

Re @AfghanBlue idk if Alice is a stem dude?? He had that like gofundme for law school tuition? Maybe just a humanities bigmouth Abi style?? Didn’t seem to know much in this episode

There is nothing more distasteful than a know-nothing who jeers, from their own ignorance , at others.

That’s mostly what’s so annoying about all these people, that’s their whole industry- and for some reason people listen.

I had assumed Alice was Stem basically by his inclusion in this pod, and that he must have some use.

I'm so tired of Olly's scholar LARP. He wants to be a female thirst trap version of Tom Scott. Somebody take this pasty tosser to school so he can learn how dull-witted and ignorant he truly is.
Like, when I went to uni, only 4-5 years before Olly, I don't remember there being any tranny stuff. I wasn't expected to respect people's pronouns or any of that tedious shit.
I think some people on or over that cusp latch onto the newfangled tranny shit because it makes them feel young and relevant and still a wide-eyed idealistic revolutionary fighter, sacrificing their 'nads for the greater good. They're either that or groomer pedos. Narcs don't like getting old either, and they're not picky about which ideological cesspool they get attention from.

Confirmed no - one of the other hosts asks what his undergrad was in….. it was in law studies

It's a bummer. A podcast about engineering disasters is a fabulous idea, and the episode about Groverhaus is honestly not bad if you can shift through the noise. It has all the elements of a good podcast, but unfortunately it also has Alice, constantly derailing the conversation with cringe and boring irrelevant asides.
I’ve listened to WTYP before. It can be quite entertaining (I have a weakness for plane crash stuff, yes, I know it’s weird) and they generally know what they’re talking about, if only due to autism. Including Alice, who does contribute even without a technical STEM background.

I can’t bring myself to listen to any of that Abigail episode because just the thought of “idiot narcissist trying to fit in with co-hosts who actually know shit about the topic” already induces too much secondhand embarrassment.

Interesting that he is so clearly trying to worm his way into so many social/professional groups just by way of being trans and latching onto other trannies. At some point the majority of his new contacts will realize he doesn’t have anything else to offer and will cool on him, which will be an interesting narc meltdown.

Here's a hint about casting calls for TV and movies: they aren't going to hire a troon because he fits a general casting call. Not even Netflix is going to waste an otherwise standard part to cast some hulking lad in bad drag for a female character just to own the cons. If Ollie gets cast he's being cast as a troon so the non-fags in the audience can pat themselves on the back and think, How brave, all the while trying to ignore the lizard part of the brain quoting Austin Powers.

Casting is ruthless and mean and cold and Ollie is about to get two barrels full at point blank.
