Culture Foo Fighters Drummer, Taylor Hawkins, Dead At Age 50

Taylor Hawkins, the jovial, ferocious drummer for Foo Fighters, has died at the age of 50, according to a statement from the band.

“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” read the message, which was posted to social media. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.” Foo Fighters are currently on tour in South America and were preparing to perform in Bogota, Colombia, a rep for the band told Rolling Stone.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Hawkins relocated to Southern California with his family in his early childhood. He first rose to prominence as the touring drummer for Alanis Morissette, joined Foo Fighters in 1997 after the departure of original drummer William Goldsmith.
As news of Hawkins’ death spread, numerous musicians and celebrities took to social media to pay tribute to the drummer. “I’ve always had so much admiration for him,” former Dream Theatre drummer Mike Portnoy said of Hawkins on Twitter. “Amazing drummer & a gem of a guy who was always fun to be around.”

I remember not realizing he played the stewardess in the one music video until a few years ago lmao

The Foo Fighters suck but man associating with Dave Grohl seems to be bad luck. Josh Homme narrowly avoided getting involved in a terrorist attack, Kurt Cobain drank some lead mouthwash, and now his drummer dies. Or maybe it's Buzz Osborne and Josh Homme cause they are also associated with all those people.

Wasting Light was their best album since the 90's, but they did go off the rails immediately after that.
Loved that album. But yeah, I never cared for much of what they did after that. Doesn't mean they're not one of the most influential bands of the modern era.

That's a shame. I bought their first album before when it first came out and really liked it, and was into them for the next few. As I got older I kinda drifted away, but I always liked anything I heard from them. The movie they made looked pretty funny and I was going to get around to see it.

I always had mad respect for Taylor as it can't be easy being the drummer in a band fronted by another great drummer.

The Slipknot drummer also died last year of a mysterious unannounced condition. Both of those guys were pretty young to be suddenly dropping dead like that. I wonder if drummers are gonna be hit worse than other musicians?
Weren't there like three drummers in that band? I haven't listened to them since I was a Freshman in High School. I grew out of the cacophony and went back into time from the 00's to settle on thrash and technical/speed stuff. Sucks though, they influenced a lot of drummers and sold a lot of double bass drum pedals no doubt.

Josh Homme narrowly avoided getting involved in a terrorist attack,
You're referring to the 2015 Bataclan Terrorist attack? Homme doesn't regularly tour with Eagles of Death Metal which is understandable because Queens of the Stone Age is a far more popular band that would obviously make more money on tours. Homme, Grohl, and Hughes are all just close friends often just like to just collaborate on each others albums.

Really when you put it in perspective Dave Grohl has a large social celebrity social net and claiming he's bad luck is pretty silly. People die, most grow old first but many don't get off that easily.

For some reason I was thinking Homme was a singer in EODM but guess I was misremembering or mixing it up with some other group he's in. Still kinda seems like the guy has bad luck. Though alot of musicians seem to have bad luck.

If we're running with the Josh Homme curse theory, it was only a few weeks ago that Mark Lanegan passed away. Make of that what you will.

Damn, didn't know that. Now that I think of it though, maybe it's not the Homme curse but rather the Trump curse since Homme did call out Trump once. Though to Hommes credit he did it in the most Trump-like way possible by calling him "a retarded human being".

Damn it, this one hits hard. The Foos have had a couple of good albums, and a bunch of good songs scattered across albums full of filler, but I've loved them mostly as a live act—their shows have always been insanely fun, and totally worth seeing.

I was disappointed they went full vaxxtard for their latest tour, not even accepting negative tests. And yeah, I do wonder if whatever killed Taylor was jab-related.

Shit. This is just so damned sad.

Sshhh. No politics for the next four minutes.

I've not been one to call FF the "best band" but this has for a long time been the "best video ever" for me. (and I honestly didn't know they were still making stuff after this)

Lots of spanish in the comment section there. Did FF have a big following in Spanish speaking countries? or maybe right-after-death in colombia simply would lead to lots of spanish comments for anyone of any notoriety?

It's always heroin, but I hope it's not heroin.

I'm thinking it's likely an OD. Sadly that's usually the case. Unless he had a freak accident like Bob Saget. Doubtful though.

Hopefully the rest of the Foo Fighters will take this as a sign and quit. Not that they should've needed a sign, as they've been in steep decline since The Pretender. One imagines it won't happen, though, as Dave Grohl's ego is too overinflated for him to allow the band to quit, although I'd love to be proven wrong.

They're icons now. They're not going anywhere. Look at Aerosmith, Kiss and The Rolling Stones. These fossils are still touring. Aerosmith needs to call it a day though. Joe Perry looks like something that arises from a coffin every century to feed.
