Cat Pause, an academic whose research explored the impacts of “fat stigma”, has died.

A fat studies researcher, Pause's work focused on the wellbeing of overweight people and “the effects of spoiled identities” on their health.

Labour MP Deborah Russell shared news of Pause’s death on Saturday via her Twitter account.

“I know very few details except that our darling friend died in her sleep last night. I am so very sad, and I know that many in academic and union circles will be shocked and saddened too,” Russell wrote.

Pause spoke to Stuff in January about the discrimination fat people face in their everyday lives, especially in regard to healthcare. Moral panic over obesity levels perpetuate this.

“Everyone has anti-fat attitudes. We find them in kids as young as three. We’re not born hating fat people, we’re not born finding fat people disgusting, or that fat people are lazy or lacking discipline or willpower,” Pause said.

“We learned these attitudes, we can absolutely unlearn them.”

Yesus:

The purpose of this paper is to explore the problematisation of fatness in contemporary responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper draws from the catalogue of reports from journalists informed largely by an array of non-peer reviewed scientific literature documenting the relationship between fatness and COVID-19. Our method of enquiry is to examine fatness and COVID-19 through a problematisation lens that enables us to interrogate the scientific, political, and economic processes implicated in the production of fat bodies as problems. Fatness has been problematised in the COVID-19 pandemic. This has diverted responsibility for preparedness and well-being away from health systems and governments and onto the back of fat people and communities. This is unjust and unethical. In juxtaposition, fat activists around the world have challenged the problematisation of fatness and its effects, finding ways for fat people to subvert fat phobic institutions in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic by collectively organising to support one another. The ways in which fatness is being taken up in current COVID-19 pandemic responses diverts responsibility for health system preparedness and community resiliency to fat individuals. This is both unjust and also obstructs meaningful action to address the health inequities laid bare by COVID-19. This paper is believed to be the first to analyse the problematisation of fatness in COVID-19, highlighting that lessons can be learned about health justice in disasters from the work of fat activists during this COVID-19 pandemic.

After reading this abstract, I am glad she is dead. I never want to see the word "problematisation" again.

Scientists identify risk factor, fatties get mad at scientists.

I saw that too and it's basically just her opinion. Her opinion on some scientific fact she dosn't like. Why is her opinion published in a medical outlet?

At her size she was lucky to last as long as she did. Hopefully this trend among the fat acceptance clowns continues so their bullshit can have a minimal effect on the population.

This is the end result of the HEAS ideology. The whale was almost 350lbs by the look of her at the end.

And as she lay dying, struggling to even breathe under the weight of all those excess calories piled ontop of her vital organs, do you think she blamed her life choices for this ignominious end?

It's just like the tranny's. Believe what you want, say the world does indeed work like it does in your fantasies. Ignore reality all you want.

But in the end reality always wins. It don't give two shits about what you think, about what you feel, about whatever feel good bullshit you've bubble wrapped your life in. Reality just is.

And it always wins.

These people and really this way of thinking makes me so fucking nuts. Reality can not be ignored! Fat is obviously unhealthy, you know it I know it and they know it but choose to just ignore it. I get it, ignoring reality is a lot easier than addressing it, but the music will stop, it will!

Really, it's just gross that society even allows them to be this way. It's a social failure, like slavery or lobotomy--the society that develops it is sick. Luckily, the cure is already here and acting. Nature selects fatties for the dust bin, so let it be.
