I will try to answer this the best i can as i am deeply shaking right now.
The planning was already set. The week before he announced he was planning it then. Selfishly I attempted to discourage him, but he’s stubborn AF, but promised me he would stay safe and keep in contact as much as he can.

He was already feeling the nervousness, you’d be a fool not to be a little scared going in to help where entitled keyboard warriors won’t. He tried to make things light hearted because i asked him to just focus on fun and laughs and be lighted hearted to keep people from worrying too much, but the seriously deranged and sick individuals who continue to try and form their whole personality around hating a guy who didn’t do anything to them decided to take it out of context

Don't feel bad. Neither of you should. It isn't your fault and it isn't his fault. Anything said would've been taken out of context. If it wasn't this, it would be something else.
There's always things we could do better in hindsight. I don't think it's worth retracting or even reacting to. It's a pathetic attempt to cause problems.

Most european countries (even the eastern ones) have a proper education system, where kids are taught a second language, often english.
Actually, you can even find some interview videos of ukrainian refugees answering the journalists questions directly in english.
Also, there are a lot of people from western Europe there to help them already, and guess which language they use to all work together.
You don't need to speak ukrainian to follow the english instructions of your german coordinator to give bottles of water to the refugees.
If fact, if ukrainian speaking people only were to go to the border to help, there wouldn't be much help...
PS: And you don't actually need "relevant skills" to help people.
I understand it can be hard of a concept to grasp for a twitter warrior, but there is actually plenty you can do with just your hands.
For instance, no special skills are needed to transport boxes of food or medicine. You might not be fit enough to do so tho...
