I'll take the bait here for the sake of clarification. The majority of furs that I know, or have interacted with regarding MLP, want absolutely nothing to do with bronies. Bronies are seen as unwelcome guests and have been shunned or exploited by people in positions of authority in the fandom. The furry thread just got a mention of the "Furry Mate" dating/scam site. Bronies have one too, because people got tired of seeing their pastel horses all over the goddamned place. Also bronies are equally as stupid with money, so it's win-win for the company.
The popular furry art aggregate e621 had a situation a while back with the community growing more and more collectively pissed off at bronies dominating their website. I've mentioned it in detail before, so here's a cliff notes, but there was a data study done that showed MLP as the largest tag on the site (doubling Pokemon, which was the closest runner up) and with 7 or 8 of the top 10 "character" tags all being ponies. Any franchise or furry fodder character that you can think of was decimated in numbers by MLP. That includes Sonic, Star Fox, Pokemon, Robin Hood, Digimon -- fucking everything. Every fetish tag would return at least 1 MLP result, which on some occasions was the only result.
Companies that pander to furry interests are also no strangers to taking the piss out of bronies and separating them from their money. Bad Dragon is the most notorious example of this as they started offering an MLP-themed toy on a whim and its sales proved strong enough to keep the product on board as a regular item.
Among those that I've spoken to at length regarding the rift, the number one point that gets raised every time is that MLP is such a small and focused fandom that it allows the absolute worst of the bronies to shine through immediately, whereas there are tons of subgenres and smaller communities within the furry fandom which delineate things and prevent any one group from being the "face" of the community. "Autism" was also brought up as a legitimate point as well in regards to how rampant, obsessive, and permeating the brony fandom is. Don't get me wrong, my neck of the woods is not without our own autism, but we're talking a level of social ineptitude that makes even us say "god damn turn that down a notch".
In short, the pissant "love everyone use my pronouns" SJW furries are fine with bronies, for obvious reasons. Everyone else worth their weight in salt can see through the veneer and exclude bronies from larger social operations and gatherings.
