Eh, it goes both ways to be honest. All of Europe is just bad blood after bad blood. It's honestly a miracle that you have countries like the UK and France getting along now all things considered. They've all fucked each other over at one point or another. This last month or so has really driven home the whole "foreign entanglements are bad" mentality the founding fathers of the US had.

Europe is full of bad blood, that's true. Still, the scale of the feuds seems smaller between Western Europeans. For example, at the end of the day the British may hate the French but they still consider them to be relatively equal. As in, they may be wrong but they're still enlightened Europeans, not a subhuman Asiatic horde.

The Russian leader said money would be paid into Gazprom Bank, which is not a subject of sanctions, and then transferred in rubles to Russia, according to a German statement.

You realize they will be converted using Russia's central bank exchange rate, right? What this means is that they are effectively buying roubles on the spot.

As opposed to depositing euros to a frozen Russian bank account in Europe.

The scale of rivalry may be smaller now, but France and England were in a state of perpetual conflict with some short breaks for several hundred years. Same goes with France and Germany.
