I can't really fault Wheaton for Wesley being a garbage character. The way he was written bounces between whiny loser and know-it-all. Is there an actor on the planet that could somehow make such a character likeable? Not to mention the episode where an alien is like "Wesley, you are so smart that you are a god now, anyway bye forever" and then Wesley's ability to think his way beyond the laws of time and space is never brought up again. It's the most Gary Stu bullshit I've ever seen on TV back when TV still trended toward watchable. Try salvaging a character like that. Just try.I think he saw Takei getting attention for milking a grudge older than Wheaton himself and wanted some of those sweet, sweet asspats. What a mewling pussy. At least Takei wasn't the most annoying Scrappy Doo motherfucker in the history of Star Trek at least before it turned completely into Soy Trek.
Shut up, Wesley.
Guinness Book of World Records in the mid 90ies stopped doing youngest so and so doing x and y things like solo sailing and flying cause the kids* were getting killed or injured doing them to try get into their record books. *Guinness was very well aware the parents of the kids were the ones responsible. Either by pushing them into doing it or not stopping them at a very young age.Picard s2e05
Did you know that the key to all of this is Jay-El's ancestor, the pilot of the Europa mission? Before you say "who is he?", it's a she. She's not just a random woman, she's super smart (learned herself to sail at 10, chess master at 13, and became a test pilot, she was so great at it that NASA couldn't wait to hire her for their mission) but she is not a Mary Sue, she has a weakness:she's a womanshe suffers from depression.
It looks like they're just ripping-off First Contact now.
Because the quality of modern writers is less than dog shit. We're talking about people who are creatively bankrupt that have been brought up solely on sequels and reboots. Are you surprised that a 50 year old franchise is floundering under their stewardship? Why do all modern cinematic universes feel so small? Everyone in Star Wars knows each other even though the galaxy is huge. And now we have today's episode of Picard where Q helps the ancestor of Data's dad create Kahn while Gary Seven's work colleague helps Picard and Seven of Nine. They're going to make Star Trek feel like there's 100 people total in the Federation.

It must infuriate Wheaton that there is a ready-made response for whenever he says anything.
Probably infuriates him more because deep down he knows he deserves it.It must infuriate Wheaton that there is a ready-made response for whenever he says anything.
Oh God, that was so sad and infuriating. This is the case that was the main impetus.Guinness Book of World Records in the mid 90ies stopped doing youngest so and so doing x and y things like solo sailing and flying cause the kids* were getting killed or injured doing them to try get into their record books. *Guinness was very well aware the parents of the kids were the ones responsible. You're right about that, no amount of lo-res, static, or blur is going to hide the cheez of the costumes. I was speaking more of the sets. I'm sort of mixed on the new special effects that were introduced into the HD TOS. They don't really look like something that would or could be produced in the late 60's. They don't look organic. Some of the planet-scapes look nice, but everything else looks obviously CG. At least now it's easy to confirm Shatner was definitely wearing a piece while doing the series.I don't know, some of the monsters in TOS were almost Doctor Who levels of cheesy, even watched on a TV with a grainy picture from an antenna barely picking it up from a distant station.
The CGI in TOS Remastered is hideous. 2009 was not the height of CGI at all and I think the studio was well aware of this. The producers claimed that the 60s effects looked too dated, but son of a bitch, TOSR was dated just a few years after it was released. It looks worse than every single Star Trek fanfilm or even those analysis channels that pull up CGI models of starships to talk about released since it came out. You're right about that, no amount of lo-res, static, or blur is going to hide the cheez of the costumes.
